Two weeks after the conclusion of the Philippine Basketball Association's (PBA) maiden conference, the Philippine Cup with the San Miguel Beermen capping a historic perpetual championship, the first play-for-play loop in Asia returns with the 2017 Commissioner's Cup.

The conference will be featuring reinforcements with a 6-foot-10 height limit as teams signed up familiar and new imports to boost their respective lineups.

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings' Justin Brownlee (197-F-88, college: St.John's), who led the team in achieving the franchises' first title after eight long years, will be returning for a second tour of duty, but he will be facing much taller imports as he will be the smallest among the current batch.

Other returnees are Eugene Phelps (198-F-90, college: Long Beach St.) for the Phoenix Fuel Masters, James White (203-F-93, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Aspire Sports) for the Mahindra Floodbuster, and Wayne Chism (206-PF-87, college: Tennessee), formerly from the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, will be suiting up for the NLEX Road Warriors.

Also returning will be ex-GlobalPort Batang Pier reinforcement Shawn Taggart (207-F-85, college: Memphis) who will be donning the colors of the Elasto Painters.

A more familiar returnee will be former PBA Best Import Denzel Bowles (208-F/C-89, college: JMU, agency: Stealth Sport), who will be suiting up with the TNT KaTropa.

Blackwater Elite enlisted the services of former National Basketball Association (NBA) veteran Greg Smith (208-C-91, college: Fresno St.) and GlobalPort will be parading Sean Williams (208-F-86, college: Boston Coll.).

The Star Hotshots tapped ex-Detroit Piston Tony Mitchell with the Meralco Bolts will parade Alex Stepheson (208-F/C-87, college: USC).

Finally, the Beermen signed up Charles Rhodes (203-F/C-85, college: Mississippi St.).

The 2017 Commissioner's Cup will formally open on March 17 (Manila Time) at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with the Bolts goes up against Mahindra in the first game before the main event that features the matchup between NLEX and Rain or Shine.

Beermen Manhandle Ka Tropa In Game 2, Even Series - 11 hours ago
San Miguel Beer made sure Friday night that Josh Smith or any other TNT KaTropa player would not spring another surprise. Charles Rhodes (203-F/C-85, college: Mississippi St.) had a quiet night but the SMB locals put things together as the Beermen throttled to a 102-88 rout of the TNT KaTropa in Game Two of the PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Taking into heart their 102-104 loss in Game One, the SMB ace locals came back with vengeance in their eyes and pummell...   [read more]

Hurting Smith Lifts Ka Tropa In Game 1 - 2 days ago
Hobbling and all, Joshua Smith (208-C-92, college: Georgetown) stepped up and got TNT KaTropa past reigning Philippine Cup three-peat champ San Miguel Beer, 104-102, at the start of the PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Wednesday night. The wide-bodied TNT import continued to play through pain, delivering 21 points, including the game-winner that gave the Texters the crucial head-start in the best-of-seven championship series. Smith nailed a semi-hook off June Ma...   [read more]
