The starting five of the San Miguel Beermen dominated in Game 5 to annex the PBA Philippine Cup title for the third year in a row! In effect, the Beermen are the recipients of the PBA's perpetual trophy, and they are only the second team to achieve a Philippine Cup 3-peat after Talk N Text did it from 2011 to 2013.

Game Capsules:

SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN over BGY. GINEBRA GIN KINGS, 91-85
The San Miguel Beermen clinched a rare PBA Philippine Cup three-peat after claiming victory over Barangay Ginebra, 91-85, in Game 5 of the Oppo PBA Philippine Cup Finals on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

June Mar Fajardo and Arwind Santos each scored 21 points on a combined 15-of-22 FG shooting to lead San Miguel, which had to stave off a late rally from the never-say-die Ginebra quintet.

Fajardo, one of only two Beermen in the 2017 Gilas Pilipinas nationl pool (the other is seldom-used big man Arnold Van Opstal), added 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block to his tally, while Santos registered 8 boards, 2 dimes, and 2 rejections of his own.

Chris Ross had his most pedestrian scoring outing of the series, finishing with just a dozen points, but he showcased his versatlity again, putting up 10 assists, 8 rebounds, and 6 steals. He was named PBA Philippine Cup Finals MVP for the second year in a row.

Ginebra was paced by Japeth Aguilar's 26 points, while Sol Mercado and Joe Devance each dropped 20 markers in the loss.

LINES OF THE GAME:
Chris Ross (SMB) - 12pts, 10asts, 8rebs, 6stls, 2 triples.
Japeth Aguilar (GIN) - 26pts, 16rebs, 1ast.

Gilas survives Thailand for SEAG first win - 13 hours ago
Gilas Pilipinas survived a scare from Thailand, 81-74, to notch a win in its initial assignment last August 20 at the start of the men's basketball competitions in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Kiefer Ravena (181-G/F-93), Baser Amer, Bobby Ray Parks (193-G-93), and Christian Standhardinger (206-F-89, college: Hawaii) exerted extra effort to pull of the win and give the pro-dominant Filipino crowd in the MABA Stadium something to cheer about. With a team made...   [read more]

Gilas salvages seventh place in FIBA Asia Cup campaign - 14 hours ago
Gilas Pilipinas dropped a 10-0 blast in the last 1:47 minutes left in the game to edge Jordan, 75-70, last August 20 to clinched seventh place and end its campaign in a high note in the conclusion of the FIBA Asia Cup 2017 in Beirut, Lebanon. The seventh place finish was the worst for the Philippines since its eighth place finish in 2009. Gilas finished second in the last two editions in 2015 and 2013. Marinerong Pilipino nears D-League playoff berth - 4 days ago
Marinerong Pilipino continued its dream run to the playoff round after moving within a win away from clinching a spot in the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup quarterfinals following a 138-69 crushing of Gamboa Coffee Mix Monday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig. The 69-point spread set the second-most winning margin in league history, seven points shy of the 76-point record set by Tanduay against Zark's Burgers last July 10. Pao Javelona topped the Skippers' all-out assault, pouring in 16 p...   [read more]
