STAR HOTSHOTS over MERALCO BOLTS, 120-73
The streaking Star Hotshots kept themselves in contention for the No. 2 spot after a rousing 47-point beatdown of the Meralco Bolts, 120-73, in the Oppo PBA Philippine Cup on Saturday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Allein Maliksi scored 25 points, including five three-pointers, in just over 20 minutes of play to lead the way for the Hotshots, who moved into a three-way tie with TNT and Alaska for second place after picking up a sixth win in 10 games.

Star's backcourt duo of Paul Lee and Jio Jalalon each added 15 markers with Lee knocking down three triples and tallying a team-high five assists and the rookie Jalalon shooting 7-for-9 from the field for a 77-percent clip.

Aldrech Ramos added 13 points while Justin Melton, Ian Sangalang and Mark Barroca all finished in double figures as well with 10.

Meralco only had one player in double figures - starter Chris Newsome, who scored 13 points. The Bolts, who had already been eliminated, shot only 38-percent from the field. (Interaksyon.com)

Phelps number one in Philippines for round 1 - 1 day ago
American Forward Eugene Phelps (198-F-90) had an amazing evening in the last round for Phoenix, receiving a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 1. The 26-year old player had a double-double of 53 points and 21 rebounds, while his team edged out Blackwater (#9, 0-1), the league's bottom-ranked team 118-116. Phoenix is placed at 4th position in Filipino PBA. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Phoenix won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anyth...   [read more]
