The Star Hotshots and TNT Ka Tropa each nailed big wins to solidify their quarterfinals spots in the 2016-2017 PBA Philippine Cup.

Game Capsules:

STAR HOTSHOTS over BLACKWATER ELITE, 111-95
The Star Hotshots leaned on their plethora of weapons to annihilate the Blackwater Elite, 111-95, and boost their Oppo PBA Philippine Cup playoff chances on Wednesday at Cuneta Astrodome.

Allein Maliksi exploded for 26 points spiked by five triples while Paul Lee and Justin Melton each made 15 markers.

Jio Jalalon also scored 14 points and Ian Sangalang had 10 points and nine boards as the Hotshots nabbed their second straight win to improve to 5-4 and join four other teams, who have the same records, fighting for slots in the top eight.

The Hotshots were on fire from beyond the arc, converting 16 out of their 33 attempts for a 48 percent clip.

Maliksi, Lee and Melton took turns in lifting Star to the lopsided win. (Interaksyon.com)

Lines of the Game:
Allein Maliksi (STA) - 26pts, 5rebs, 1ast, 1stl, 5 triples.
Art Dela Cruz (BLA) - 23pts, 6rebs, 2asts, 1stl.

HIGHLIGHTS:

TNT KA TROPA over GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER, 102-98
TNT KaTropa clinched a quarterfinal spot but earned it the hard way as they needed to ward off an epic rally by the GlobalPort Batang Pier for a 102-98 win in the OPPO PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday at Cuneta Astrodome.

Rookie Roger Pogoy led the TNT attack with 20 points as KaTropa (6-4) booked a place in the quarterfinals with their sixth win of the tournament.

But they almost squandered that opportunity as TNT nearly blew a 21-point lead after allowing GlobalPort (5-5) launch a massive comeback led by Batang Pier star Terrence Romeo.

Romeo finished with 35 points, 21 of which came in the second half, nine rebounds and six assists and sparked a late run that almost helped GlobalPort snatch the win from TNT. (Interaksyon.com)

Lines of the Game:
Mo Tautuaa (TNT) - 18pts, 8rebs, 2asts.
Terrence Romeo (GLO) - 35pts, 9rebs, 6asts, 6 triples.

Charles Rhodes gets MVP of the Week award for Filipino PBA - 3 days ago
Experienced American Charles Rhodes (203-F/C-85) had a very impressive game in the last round for SM Beermen and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 5. The 31-year old power forward had a double-double of 20 points and eighteen rebounds, while his team outclassed Mahindra (#11, 1-6) with 29-point margin 109-80. SM Beermen is placed at 7th position in Filipino PBA. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this seas...   [read more]

PBA Coach being recommended for Knicks staff - 5 days ago
The name of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings coach Tim Cone was being floated to the National Basketball Association's (NBA) New York Knicks president Phil Jackson to be part of the teams' coaching staff. The most accomplished coach in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) with 19 titles under his belt including two grand slams was recommended by American sportswriter and book author Ronald Lazenby to the Knicks due to his deep understanding of running the Triangle (Triple Post) O...   [read more]

Greg Smith
Smith number one in Philippines for round 4 - 9 days ago
American Center Greg Smith (208-C-91) had a great game in the last round for Blackwater, receiving a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 4. The 25-year old player had a double-double of 40 points and 19 rebounds, while his team beat Globalport (1-4) 118-113. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Blackwater is placed at 9th position in Filipino PBA. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such...   [read more]
