Saigon Heat climbed on top of the ASEAN League ladder. They toppled visiting Petron Blaze for the third win at the start of the season. Dior Lowhorn (201-F-87, college: USF) provided 27 poitns and 12 rebounds to pace the Vietnamese team.
The Heat started the game strong. They dominated in the first half. The hosts posted a 46:42 lead at the interval. But the Beermen took over in the third quarter. Taulava and Banchero helped the visitors accumulate a 62:52 advantage at the final intermission. Saigon worked hard to erase the deficit. Jai Reyes (173-G) and Dior Lowhorn helped the hosts back to a 6-point lead midway through the final term. Leo Avenido dragged Petron Blaze within one 89:90 with under 30 seconds remaining in regulation. Jai Reyes sank two free throws, while Gabe Freeman (198-F-85, college: Costa Mesa JC) missed a three-pointer as the Heat got away with a tough home win. David Palmer (206-F/C-86, college: N.Kentucky) produced 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Jai Reyes added 22 points for the hosts. Gabe Freeman answered with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the Blaze. Brian Williams (208-C-87, college: Tennessee) chipped in 14 points and corralled 16 rebounds in the loss.

Vincent 'Chot' Reyes is back as the head coach of Gilas, the Philippine National Team, as appointed by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) last October 18.
