Gilas Pilipinas swept the competition in the group stage of their campaign in the 2013 Super Kung Sheung Cup by handing out a 119-46 beating to the hapless Malaysian team.

Former Ateneo Blue Eagle big man Greg Slaughter returned from a bout with allergies to dump 27 points on the young and inexperienced Malaysians. Slaughter made all but 2 of his 14 field goal attempts in only 23 minutes of play.

Kevin Alas and RR Garcia also did well, scoring 18 points each to backstop Slaughters dominating performance. Alas rounded out his brilliant play with 8 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Fil-American Justin Melton and super swingman KG Caaleta scored 14 markers each to further underscore the Pinoys supremacy. Nobody scored more than 8 points for the Malaysians.

Gilas advances to the crossover semifinals where they are set to face the dangerous Changsha Park Lane Snow Wolves.

Other matches:

Hong Kong Xinlibao beat Thailand, 97-70, thanks to the hot shooting of Zhao Anan. Anan made 8 of his 14 three-point attempts to finish with 28 points. Yu Xiaohang and Liu Jiulong scored 16 and 17 points respectively for support. The Thais were led by Thotsaphit Langsui and Nattakarn Muangboon, who scored 10 points eachs.

The Hong Kong National Team (sans some key players) defeated Indonesia, 96-48. The inside-outside combo of Tsoi Lung Tak and Heung Chun Keung combined for 29 points to pace Hong Kong. Tsoi, a 68 center, added 8 rebounds and blocked 3 shots, while Heung, a pint-sized guard, dished out 5 assists. 61 swingman Kaleb Ramot Gemilang exploded with 27 points to lead the Indons losing cause.

Defending champions SCFA (Southern California Fukienese Association) trounced the Changsha Park Lane Snow Wolves, 96-84. The Americans stood out once again, with Robert Curtis and Trayvonte Britt pairing up for 41 points to spearhead the SCFA charge. The Snow Wolves were led by 611 Jia Cheng, who scored 22 points on 9-of-11 FG shooting.

NLEX drops plans to bring back Michael Madanly - May 29, 2016

No wonder, the Road Warriors are passing up the chance of bringing back sweet-shooting Syrian guard Michel Madanly (194-G-81) as they allow Lanete to develop as the team's upcoming outside gunner. The 35-year-old Michel Madanly served as the Road Warriors' Asian reinforcement for the Governors Cup last season. Last year was the first time the PBA allowed teams to bring in one Asian import to work alongside an American reinforcement. A former top scorer in the FIBA Asia men's championships...   [read more]
#SEABA2016 Stankovic Cup Final Day Roundup - May 28, 2016

The Gilas Cadets had another tough outing against host team Thailand, but they used a strong finishing kick to bag the 2016 SEABA Stankovic Cup title. Both teams qualified to play in the 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge, but it was Gilas that was able to bring the bacon home. Scores and Recaps: Day 6 SINGAPORE over MALAYSIA, 68-62 - For the second straight game, Malaysia fell short of beating arch-rival Singapore. The Singaporeans leaned on the 20-point, 16-rebound double-double of big man Delv...   [read more]
#SEABA2016 Stankovic Cup Day Five Roundup - May 27, 2016

The Gilas Cadets barely survived their last elims match-up against hosts Thailand in the 2016 SEABA Stankovic Cup. Gilas had a lot of trouble against a very motivated home team, and they will get to play against each other again in the Final. Malaysia, meanwhile, fell short of beating rival Singapore in the day's first game. Scores and Recaps: Day 5 SINGAPORE over MALAYSIA, 61-55 - Malaysia was in control for much of this game until the Singporeans unfurled an 18-6 finishing kick to pul...   [read more]
