The 2013 Super Kung Sheung Cup Day 2: Gilas Destroys Hong Kong - Jan 23, 2013

True to form, the Gilas Pilipinas squad ran roughshod over the hosts in Day 2 of the 2013 Super Kung Sheung Cup tournament.

Once again, it appeared as if naturalized big man Marcus Douthit was hardly needed, though he did contribute 6 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks in 22 minutes of action. Instead, it was KG Caaleta who top-scored for the Pinoys anew, scoring 15 points on the strength of three triples to go along with 8 boards and 2 rejections. He was backstopped by NCAA rivals Kevin Alas and Jake Pascual, who tossed in 14 and 10 markers respectively.

The lone bright spot for Hong Kong was 65 center Wong Chun Wai, who scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. In a peculiar strategy, the Hong Kong cagers actually attempted more shots from beyond the arc than they did from inside the two-point area. Head coach Kwong Wai Cheungs wards hoisted 42 shots from rainbow country, making just 6.

This win assured coach Chot Reyes and his boys of the top spot in Group A and an automatic semifinal berth. Gilas Pilipinas next plays Indonesia to close out the eliminations.

Other matches:

Malaysia beat Indonesia, 89-67, thanks to the combined 42 points of Hong Hoong Gan and Shee Weng Loh. Gan made 4 of his 9 three-point attempts, while Loh also collared 15 caroms. The Indons were led by Respati Pamungkas and Januar Kuntara, who scored 16 and 15 points respectively.

The Changsha Park Lane Snow Wolves defeated Hong Kong Xinlibao, 68-66. Liu Peng scored 14 points to pace Changsha, while 68 Jiang Junqi registered a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards. Yu Xiaohang and Zhang Dongyang combined for 31 points to lead Xinlibao.

Defending champions SCFA (Southern California Fukienese Association) trounced Thailand, 85-71. Jerome Moton, Jr., Robert Curtis, Trayvonte Britt, and Ramall Goodrich all scored 15 points or more to spearhead the SCFA charge. The Thais were led by Wuttipong Dasoms 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

D-League: Jeruta sparks late rally as Cafe France extends semis - 4 days ago
Aaron Jeruta (173-G) emerged as the spark Cafe France badly looked for, helping the Bakers nab an 86-75 Game 2 victory over Racal on Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig and extend their 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup semifinals series. The veteran guard unloaded 10 of his 18 points in the fourth period as the Bakers fired a 16-4 finishing kick to steal the game from the Tile Masters. 'Aaron Jeruta stepped up.
