Keeping in step and in tip-top form before their next ABL assignment, the San Miguel Beermen, kept themselves busy by winning a pair of scrimmages against two PBA teams.

The Beermen, led by import Brian Williams (208-C-87, college: Tennessee) and Fil-am Chris Banchero (185-G, college: Seattle Pacific), edged Barako Bull Energy, 97-77, and won over Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, 102-93, a couple of days later. They will meet the Petron Blaze Boosters before flying to Ho Chi Minh City for their ABL clash with the Saigon Heat on January 26.

San Miguel came from an impressive season ABL debut with a throbbing of the defending champions, Indonesia Warriors, 64-53, last January 11 at Jakarta, Indonesia. Williams lead the Beermen with 15 points and 19 rebounds while Banchero scored 14 and reigning MVP Leo Avenido (186-G-78) chipping 10. Celebrated frontlines Asi Taulava (206-C-73, college: BYU-Hawaii), who contributed 2 points and 10 rebounds, and Eric Menk (199-F-74, college: L.Superior), scoring 6, has struggled in their debuts.
