Chris Taft (208-F-85, college: Pittsburgh), an American who played for the Golden State Warriors in the National Basketball Association (NBA) will plane in today from Los Angeles and join the Philippine National team workout later in the day at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) executive-director Noli Eala said Taft will stay for a week in which he will undergo a battery of tests to determine his fitness.

A naturalized player is being eyed by the SBP to fill up the center spot, a practice allowed by FIBA.

Taft played 17 games during the 2005-2006 NBA season, averaging 2.8 points and 2.1 rebounds in 8.5 minutes a game. He had surgery to repair a herniated disc on March 28, 2006 and has not played a professional game since.

On Oct. 27, 2006, Taft was waived by the Warriors and became a free agent.

His arrival comes two days after the all-amateur national team was presented by SBP president Manny V. Pangilinan.

The squad, mentored by Serbian Rajko Toroman, is being eyed to take part in the 2012 London Olympics.
