Syria secured the first win at the WABA Championship in Amman. They held off Palestine for 1-2 record. Michel Maadanly (194-G-81) stepped up with another pivotal performance for Syria. He delivered 27 points and 6 rebounds in the win.
Syria had to overcome a slow start. Palestine built a 24:19 advantage ten minutes into the game. But Syria answered almost immediately exploding with 22 points in the second quarter and taking a 41:37 halftime lead. Syria stayed aggressive offensively in the third period. They managed to pile up a 6-point lead heading into the fourth frame. The teams slowed down in the final quarter but Syria capitalized protecting the margin and sealing the victory. Watche Nalabandian (184-PG-83) produced 20 points, while Ahmad Ishak (194-SF-86) added 7 points for Syria. Jamal Abu-Shamala (196-F/G-87, college: Minnesota) responded with 18 points for Palestine. Sakakini Sani (204-C-88) had 26 points and 12 rebounds in defeat.

Jiangsu Tongxi (CBA) landed 27-year old Palestinian superstar Sani Sakakini (204-100kg-88, agency: Agency). The big man spent last season at Orthodox in Jordanian Premier League.
