Saudi Arabias Mohammed Alsager netted two free throws with just under six minutes remaining to tie the match and inspire his side to beat Palestine 82-79 in mens basketball at Al Gharafa Indoor Hall yesterday. The Palestinians led by 10 points at halftime but Alsagers intervention made it 68-68 with 5min 41sec left in the fourth quarter and the Saudis took the lead for good shortly afterwards. Defeat leaves Palestine with a crucial match against Kuwait on Wednesday, with the winner guaranteed a berth in the second round and the loser out of the tournament. That game is more important than this game, said Palestines Mahdi Ahmed (F). Earlier, Qatar beat Kuwait 70-63, and the representatives of the 2011 Arab Games host country were not satisfied with their effort. I am happy we won but we are not playing our best at the moment. We are not clicking on all cylinders and we have to get better for the next round. We have time to get better. We have our next game to get better, said Saad Abdulrahman. Ganadi Shrief and Assem Marei (206-C-92) each had 15 points in Egypts 92-59 triumph over Iraq. Thank God it was the second game in this group and we needed to win to qualify for the next phase, said Wael Badr of Egypt. It was a difficult game and we made great efforts, especially when it came to the defence. We thank God for this win and we hope to win the next games. Algeria dumped Sudan 88-37 in the late game. Egypt and Algeria are tied for first place in group A on four points, while Iraq and Sudan have two points apiece. Jordan and Tunisia are tied on top of the group B standings, with two points each, while Lebanon is third with one point, and Morocco has none. In group C, Qatar sits in first place in with four points, one more than Kuwait and Saudia Arabia. Palestine is fourth with two points. Courtesy of: http://www.gulf-times.com
