The last time the National Basketball Team took part in an international event was the first Islamic Solidarity Games in 2005 in Saudi Arabia. A large majority of the selected players was not even part of that team. And the last Pakistani participation to South Asian Games dates back to 1995, when the regional showpiece was held in Chennai (India). The coaching staff, the dates and venue for the training camp are yet to be decided. The announcement was made by the PABBF Secretary Col (retd) Naseem Butt, who is also the chairman of the Selection Committee, formed also by Col Aftab, Rasheed Butt and Khawaja Ghulam Dastagir.

Pakistan is best known in the sporting world for producing world class cricketers but hoops has a pulse in the central Asian country and that will be evident on Tuesday when The Falcons Basketball Academy is launched at the Government Dennys Higher Secondary School. The FBA is the brainchild of its director, Syed Saeed-ul-Hasan, who is also the president of the Falcons Basketball Club, one of the oldest of the Rawalpindi Division. The main aim of the academy is to groom the talent at a very early age under the guidance of experienced coaches. "My friends and I feel that the interest in the sport is dying among the young breed and we want to renew the passion in them by providing them with a place where they canlearn the skills of basketball in a healthy atmosphere," said Syed. Pakistan's first ever academy of its kind will be inaugurated by Director General Pakistan Sports Board Brig Arif Mahmud Siddiqi at a simple ceremony. (Courtesy of Pakistan Times)
