Manama book berth in semis - May 19, 2016

Manama crushed Nizwa of Oman 99-59 in the second round of the 36th GCC Basketball Clubs Championship played yesterday at Al Ahli Club in Dubai. With the win, Manama advanced to the semi-final round, and will next face Qatar's Al Rayyan who defeated Ohod of Saudi Arabia 94-57 also yesterday. The semi-final is scheduled for tomorrow to be played at 3pm, Bahrain time. The quarters scores of the match were as follows: 23-16, 22-13, 27-16, 27-14. Manama's best scorers in the game were Austin Daye (211-F-88, college: Gonzaga, agency: Priority Sports) who was the highest scorer for the fourth consecutive game with 17 points, along with Hussain Mohammed (PG) who finished with 16 points, while teammates Ahmed Abdulaziz and Kadeem Coleby (206-C/F-89, college: Wichita St.) added 14 each, and Mohammed Kuwayyed had 13. The match saw a good crowd attendance by the Manama fans, who came to support the team all way from Bahrain. The number of Manama supporters is expected to increase in their team's next semi-final round game against Al Rayyan. A victory will send Manama into their first ever final since 2001.
In the other match, Bahrain's second team Al Ahli lost to Al Sadd of Qatar 88-82 that ended their hopes of qualifying for the semi-final. The quarters scores were as follows: 26-11, 27-23, 12-19, 23-29. Al Ahli's best scorers were Loren Woods (218-C-78, college: Arizona) who scored 21 points, along with Hussain Shaker and Hisham Sarhan who both had 20 points each.

Nizwa - Rayyan 55:74 Rayyan victoriously opened their GCC Cup campaign. They topped hosting Nizwa in the opener. Matthew Bryan-Amaning (205-F-88, college: Washington) posted 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Qatari side. Rayyan opened the game on a 17:4 run. As Seeb (D1) strengthened their roster with addition of 30-year old American swingman Antonio Haymon (198-102kg-88, college: Lee). He played last season at Al Salam in Saudi Arabian SBL league, played few games with Al Khor in Qatari league that year. The other team he played shortly was Hoops Club in Lebanese Pepsi LBL where in 6 games he recorded 13.8ppg, 8.3rpg, 1.5apg, 1.0spg and 1.0bpg last season.
