Two basketball clubs have joined forces for the Malaysia Pro League (MPL) challenge. The Kelantan Warriors, winners of the now defunct Malaysian National Basketball League in 2013, have teamed up with East Malaysian outfit Bintulu Eagles to form a new team - the PRG Eagles. The Eagles are not just aiming to win the title, they are also in it for the long haul. 'The idea of setting up this club is to take care of the players by signing them on long-term deals thus providing them with stable incomes,' said team owner Datuk Joseph Lee. 'In a way, we are setting up the club in the mould of KL Dragons. "And we're not just looking at the MPL. This is just a stepping stone for us. We are also looking at more tournaments outside the country,' added Joseph. And the Eagles may even become the second Malaysian team in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) alongside Westports Malaysia Dragons. But for now, the team under Filipino coach Britt Renoma, are focused on making a good impression in the MPL. The Eagles are certainly not short of talented players with seasoned national players Chee Kheun Ma (180-G-90), Wei Hong Choo (197-C-92), Shen Hao Yim (185-G-90), Zhi Shin Chin (190-F-87) and Ryan Liaw on their payroll. They have also snapped up several promising youngsters - Heng Yee Tong, Ong Wei Yong, Yek Liang Chuan and Thea Zhong Shin. To beef up the squad they have signed two Americans - forward Shelton Boykin and centre Anthony McClain. The other teams in the MPL are KL Dragons, Farmco TouchUp, Penang Stallions, Verve and Kings Pinas Asia.

The Malaysian junior boys basketball team have a challenging task in the Fiba Asia Under-16 Championship in Foshan, China, from April 2-8. Malaysia earned their spot on merit after finishing second in the Southeast Asian Basketball (SEABA) Under-16 Championship behind regional powerhouse - the Philippines last year. BRYAN DAVIS KL Dragons Basketball Academy (MPL) agreed terms with 31-year old American power forward Bryan Davis (206-113kg-86, college: Texas A&M). He just played at Trouville in Uruguayan LUB league. In 10 games he had 11.6ppg, 8.6rpg, 1.8apg and 1.5spg this season. Davis also spent pre-season at CS Antonins (Pepsi LBL) in Lebanese league that year. He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2014. CHRIS EVERSLEY KL Dragons Basketball Academy (MPL) inked 26-year old American forward Chris Eversley (201-102kg-91, college: Cal Poly - SLO). He played most recently at Koeln Rh.Stars in German ProA. In 32 games he averaged 7.7ppg, 3.6rpg, 1.2apg and 1.1spg last season. Among other achievements Eversley's college team won Big West Tournament in 2014.
