Chris Thomas
Chris Thomas has been officially named as the new head coach for the Westports Malaysia Dragons (WMD). Praised for his drive and knowledge, Chris Thomas is renowned for his unique approach to the game and players. Chris Thomas ' coaching career started back in 2000 where he was only an undergraduate at the University of Dayton. For three years, he was an assistant coach for the Dayton Flyers. Eventually, Chris went on to work with several other college basketball teams, namely University of Pittsburgh - Johnstown (2003-2005), Miami Redhawks (2005-2007) and the Lake Superior State University (2010-2011). After finishing his term with the Redhawks in 2007, he was hired as an NBA scout for several teams such as the Chicago Bulls (2007-2009), doubled as an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors (2012-2014) and Utah Jazz (2014-2015). In 2013, Coach Chris Thomas worked with the Slovenian Senior Men's National Team for two seasons as their assistant coach. There, he trained the team extensively on skill development and implemented game plans for every opponent for both Major International Tournaments. Then in September 2015, he was appointed as head coach for the Orangeville A's of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL) followed by China's NBL team Luoyang. 'My goal this season is to have my team ready to play every night, to compete in every possession, and to play with passion every time we take the floor. I want a team of players who are hungry to succeed, who will play with and for each other.' said Coach Chris Thomas when asked about his goals for his new team. 'As defending champions, we must understand that we have a huge target on our backs, however, I have always been someone who loves challenges and I am ready to put in the work it takes to be champions again.' The Assistant General Manager of WMD, Mr. Shoghi Gan said in welcoming of their new head coach, ' We are very excited to bring in Coach Chris Thomas as our new head coach. Being very experienced in different coaching roles, I'm sure he will further develop our players and staff, be it on or off court, into professionals. He will definitely be an inspiration to the basketball community in Malaysia and we expect our team to grow to new heights with the guidance of Coach Chris Thomas .' Accepting his new coaching path, Coach Chris Thomas has to leave his country and move to Malaysia, land rich with culture and diversity. In regards to moving here, Coach Chris Thomas said, 'I am really looking forward to calling one of the most beautiful places on earth home. Kuala Lumpur has always been on the top of my list of places to visit, so the opportunity to coach and live here is a dream come true.' Coach Chris Thomas will also be working on as an advisor to the national team as part of the Westports Malaysia Dragons-Malaysia Basketball Association partnership. Yakub Hussaini, General Manager of the Dragons said, 'we hope to create a strong coaching staff with Chris Thomas and Coach Cheng Huat Goh working together for the national team for the SEA Games 2017 and in the process, to develop our current and new players.' Chris Thomas is expected to arrive and begin his role on the 19th September 2016.

Ting's Turn to Erupt: Malaysia Wins Second Straight Game Against Chung Chou University - 7 days ago
'He told me to take the baskets whenever I have open shots.' Chun Hong Ting (193-C-96) said about his coach's advice in this game. The advice turned out to be beneficial for both Ting and the team, as he exploded for a team-high 21 points and 6 three-point shots. Ting had a poor shooting night in the previous game when he missed all six long range shots, but was more on target today. It was clear early on that it was going to be a special game for Ting.
