Sporting Club Chabibeh has cashed in a lot of their assets, but the very best is staying exactly where he belongs. Ever since the rebuild began, Fadi Tabet has been notorious for his stockpiling of assets. There were times when it felt as though Tabet would never sell what he had, but that finally stopped after J.D. Barnes was hired.

Tabet lost his prized star coach, Zoran Visic (agency: Promotex ), who was responsible for leading the rebuild and played a major role in getting three national team players signed in the 2016-17 season. He would leave Sporting Club Chabibeh and join the India National Team and had a fantastic summer as he led India to a gold medal in the FIBA Asia Cup. Now, Sporting Club Chabibeh has lost that and all of their national team players along with star point guard Miramar Mokdad to Al Riyada.

It has been said that Sporting Club Chabibeh Sporting Club has now collected the worst talent for the 2018 WLBL season. But there is one man who can see different - J.D. Barnes .

Everyone can see the brilliance of Barnes with the results on the court. He took one of the least talented teams in the league, and got everyone to buy into a system that pushed them to a 29 point victory over Energy Sporting Club when they had no business being there. 'I found it funny that every player told me no in the summer', said Barnes. "All they continued to do was tell me that my team sucks and we won't be competitive."

With no national team players, the results are so far amazing with Sporting Club Chabibeh having been already invited to two major international events in Spain and France. Throw in over 10 years experience as a professional player and Barnes has established one of the most respected reputations in the world in a short period of time. That alone is enough to put Barnes up there with any player in terms of importance. This offseason, however, has shown us why Barnes is even more special than that.

We often hear about players being drawn to certain teams because of the other players they would have around them. Most of it is talent and some of it could also be personality and demeanor, but the players on a team are usually the biggest factor in drawing in other players. For Sporting Club Chabibeh, more so than any individual player, people want to play with Barnes. When you see each and every player improve after joining the team, players realize they have a rare opportunity with Barnes and the results speak for themselves.

'This is not a sprint, it's a marathon', said Barnes. "I have 12 great girls and we will work all season to build the team of the future." It is now quite easy to see why Kristina King (180-PG-92, college: Richmond) was drawn to Barnes. They have history from Team USA and King is not shy about how Barnes has changed her. King has the experience that goes to show just why Barnes is the best coach for her, and there is a great chance that she would not have chosen the Sporting Club Chabibeh team if not for Barnes. Just think, in only two short games Kristina King is the most talked about person in the league. Sunday night versus Energy Sporting Club she posted a league best 44 points along with 13 rebounds. Last summer King started for Team USA in the FIBA William Jones Cup where she was named MVP. She led the tournament in scoring and rebounding on her way to a bronze medal.

'I can't say enough about coach and what he has done for me', said King. "He saved my life and has without a doubt made me the player I am today.'

It's easy to spotlight an import and give credit, but you know you're making a difference when in just a few games it is already obvious that Barnes has had a major impact on the locals players as well. For seven seasons Jennifer Ammoury Maalouf (178-F/G-89) has been nothing more than a role player. Last season for Antranik she averaged just 15 minutes per game. This season, Ammoury is averaging 12.5 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. All career highs. 'Coach is awesome', said Ammoury. "He is very hard on us, but we all know he cares. Off the court has been great with coach also. We are in two events in Europe which is motivating our team to get better every day. So hats off to coach."

There really can be no argument now. Players are going to continue to be drawn to Barnes and his track record is proven credible with both King and Ammoury buying into everything that he wants to do. 'It's a challenge for me', said Barnes. "I have always wanted the players that no one invested in. Kristina King was not respected the way she deserved. We worked very hard and now she's one of the hottest professional athletes in Europe. It makes me proud. I have this same outlook for Jennifer." One of the most amazing things about Barnes is that he makes it as easy as possible for a player to be motivated to buy in. There is a lot of speculation about his age and ability to coach on a professional level - but look at him now.

Outlook History: Jermaine Barnes attended Point University where we was named 2006 National Player of the Year along with All-American honors. He would go on to play ten years of professional basketball including the 2014 training camp with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Barnes won two silver medals in the FIBA William Jones Cup before being forced to retire.
