Sagesse - Al Hekmeh Beirut (Pepsi LBL) agreed terms with 27-year old Dutch international center Thomas van der Mars (208-107kg-90, college: Portland). He started the season at AVIS Rapla in Estonian Alexela KML. In 28 games he was fourth best scorer with impressive 16.4ppg and averaged 12.6rpg (leader !!!) and 1.0apg this season. A very spectacular year in his career as he was named to Estonian All-Star Game. van der Mars also played 14 games in Baltic League where he had very remarkable stats: 17.6ppg and 11.4rpg. Quite impressive season as he was selected Eurobasket.com All-Baltic League Player of the Year, Eurobasket.com All-Baltic League European Player of the Year and named to 1st Team. The last season van der Mars played at Enosi Kalathosfairisis Kavalas in Greek A2. In 14 games he recorded 3.4ppg and 3.9rpg.
van der Mars' team made it to the Estonian League Semifinals in 2016.
He has been also a member of Dutch international program for some years. van der Mars has regularly played for Dutch senior team since 2016 and previously for U20 National Team back in 2010.
He represented Holland at the Qualifications to European Championships 2017 last year. His stats at that event were 6 games: 4.0ppg, 4.0rpg.
van der Mars has played also professionally in Spain (Canarias Basketball Academy).
He attended University of Portland until 2015 and it is his second season as a professional player.

28-year old forward Bassel Bawji (203-F-89) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Beirut Club and receives a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 8. He had a double-double of 29 points and 15 rebounds, while his team crushed Champville (#3, 6-2) with 17-point margin 92-75. Beirut Club maintains the 5th position in Lebanese league.
