Fil-Am top Berksmen; Kuwait Steel edge Buffalo
KUWAIT CITY, March 18: The UAE Exchange/Xpress Money Philippines Basketball Association in Kuwait (PABAK) played 7 games Friday opening with a win for Gemini Global Cargo against a feisty Knights, 73-66.
Joel Mallari wrought magic for Gemini with 18 points and numerous rebounds. Captain Jonas Espiritu bulldozed into the game in the dying minutes with crucial go-ahead points to nail the Gemini victory.
The Knights found their trump card in Nick Nasayu, who was uncontainable in the start and end, finishing with 12 points despite a temporary lull in the mid quarters.
Popong Lumbajon inflicted a slow damage on the opposition taking 9 points quietly, enchashing on the cracks in the defense. The Knights finished the first quarter with a one-point lead, 9-10, and blew the next two rounds so badly (22-28 and 37-43) rendering their last quarter pickup, though impressive, ineffectual, game ending 66-73 on the side of Geminis.
Buffalo Caf, in the next game, seemed to exhaust their steam in the first round to limp from thereon against Kuwait Steel, who won 72-69.

Jeffrery Jacintos spectacular play to score 19 including two impossible 3-pointers from miles away did not avail the Buffaloes much. Johan Laban for the Steel scored 25, designing a win for his team.
The rounds ended 16-10, 28-29, 50-56 and finally 69-72 in favor of Steels.
The game between D Brothers and Batee Design was an entertainer with prolific scoring by both teams, though D Brothers proved to be the dominant pack. The game ended in the Brothers pocket 93-83.
The first round belonged to the Mayan-sounding Jaguar Rocreo, who monopolized the Batee basket with practice-session lan, scoring 10 for the Brothers. After paling temporarily in the second quarter, Jaguar roared back in to continue his raid.
Jun Ninon also joined Jaguars loot for an overall haul of 13 for the Brothers. Meanwhile, Jophet Matias was a constant thorn in the Brothers flesh with his regular forays that kept the Batees in the game. Matias scored 19, including a distant 3-pointer in the last moments.
Fil-AM were on top against Berks Men in the fourth game of the day, winning 66-56. Berks Men lagged feebly behind right from the start, closing in at 46-45 in the third quarter, their best reply to the AM broadside.

The no. 11 players on both sides were the fiercest scorers, Marlon Bautista for Berks and J Viloria for AM. Bautista scored 22, and Viloria scored 29. The two were all over the court, leaving star-eyed players in the wake of their baskets.
The rounds were 90 percent dominated by AM 19-12, 33-26, 45-46 and 66-56. Bautista bombarded the hoop to score 11 in just the last round.
In the next game, the Caporia were mauled by a bloodthirsty Chronos, 102-85. The Caporias always had their backs to the wall, never challenging the Chronos affront. The rounds moved 21-13, 51-33, 76-61 and 102-85.
Janson Manalo delivered the meanest blows to Caporia, along with Tophy. Marco Cabico was the leading scorer for Caporia.
Gelato Natasha downed Corpro in the sixth game of the tournament Friday 102-89. The Corpros began strong leading 25-22 in the first round. However, a Gelato surge was scripted by Allie Adorador when he fired on all cylinders in the second round. The round ended 44-37, Gelato on top.
The Corpros fret was contained in the third quarter when they bounced back to lead 65-64. But the reprise was too short lived as Jon De La Cruz, Eric Barbeito and Joso Obordo took charge for Gelato in the last round. The Gelatos scored a total of 37 points the last round
The LJD Club X trounced Destroyer in the last game of the day, 44-26, keeping the prospect of an LJD upset remote. LJD are on a glorious win run, a trend many teams burned their fingers trying to buck.
LJD was placed comfortably from the start and ambled to a leisurely win. The Destroyers seemed resigned to their fate after a grim first round, 25-19. The points came in a drip from there onwards, as LJD took it easy with victory in clear sight.
