Qadsia make it 4 in a row
- Mar 29, 2010
After having just qualified to the Final 4 in the last week of the
regular season with 4 losses and a third place, Al
Qadsia managed to make the perfect run in the Playoffs to win the
hard fought Championship and prove another time it was the best team in
the crucial moments.
It was left to an awaited away game against
Al
Kuwait SC team who lead the regular season and needed a win and
nothing else to stop
Al
Qadsia's claim to the title. The situation was simple:
Al
Qadsia win the game and they win the title or
Al
Kuwait SC win the game and would have the opportunity for another
shot against the title holders.
In front of a full crowd in
Al
Kuwait SC stadium, the game started with
Al
Qadsia taking the lead almost from the start controlling the tempo
and imposing a solid defense that lead
Al
Kuwait SC's coach to take out a helpless Ira Clark, completely
muffled by
Joel Box (205-C-84, agency:
Pro Management Agency, college:
Quincy), and put the experienced
Andre Pitts (185-G-73, college:
Huston-Tillotson) to try and reverse the trend.
Al
Qadsia went 25-20 in the first quarter and continued building on
that lead in the second in spite of the efforts of
Andre Pitts (11 pts) and Rashed Riyad (10 pts) for
Al
Kuwait SC. Box wraped up the first half with 10 pts and 6 rebounds
in 14 minutes while Mike Christensen helped with 6 pts in 6 minutes of
play to enable
Al
Qadsia to reach half stage ith a 47-40 lead.
Al
Kuwait SC star Abdallah El Sarraf contributed for
Al
Qadsia with 10 points.
The third quarter saw a big come back for
Al
Kuwait SC Club with a great performance from guard Rashed Riyad who,
almost alone with his 12 points effort, allowed his team to go 6 points
in front 4 minutes into the quarter. In the last seconds of that period,
the score was equal again (66-66) thanks to an effort from
Al
Qadsia's Hmeidi.
Al
Qadsia took an irreversible lead again 4 minutes into the Fourth
quarter with 3 consecutive long range shots from guard Fahed El Soubehi
who finished the night with 15 points and allowed his team to retain the
title another time (88-80).
It was the 4th successive League title win for
Al
Qadsia who went from almost being eliminated in the first round to
winning the League.

Qadsia:
Joel Box: 15 pts (1/4 3pt), (4/11 2pt), (4/7 Ft), 14 rebounds in 30
