Higher League Round 8: Almat.Legion is defeated by Kazygurt - Apr 6, 2017

The most important game in the last round took place in Alma-Ata between third ranked Almat.Legion (8-13) and fourth ranked Kazygurt (5-16) on Monday night. Almat.Legion was defeated by Kazygurt in a tough game at home 72-79. Kazygurt forced 25 Almat.Legion turnovers. Strangely Almat.Legion outrebounded Kazygurt 46-31 including 18 on the offensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Almat.Legion helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Zhandos Kaliyev (197-93) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 13 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Kirill Nikulochkin (190-88) who added 27 points and 4 steals during the contest. Swingman Ruslan Aitkali (195-97) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds. Kazygurt maintains fourth position with 5-16 record. Almat.Legion at the other side keeps the third place with 13 games lost.

Kapshagay brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The winners were led by the former international swingman Konstantin Dvirniy (192-88) who scored that evening 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Valentin Rogatkin (196-88) supported him with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Four Kapshagay players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds by forward Zhandos Kaliyev (197-93) did not help to save the game for Kazygurt. Muratbey Usak Sportlif Basketbol (BSL) agreed terms with 26-year old American guard Ian Miller (190-84kg-91, college: Florida State). He played last season at BK Astana in Kazakhstan National League. Kazakhstan edged Kyrgyzstan to enter FIBA Asia Cup to be held August 8-20 in Lebanon. Kazakhstan posted an 81-71 win for the ticket to Beirut. Both teams looked good at the first period, while Kazakhstan dominated the second quarter and took the decent lead to control the game. Kyrgyzstan reduced the gap from 20 points to 10, but could not save the game.
