The most exciting game of round 5 in the Higher League took place in Kapshagay. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of second-ranked Kapshagay (9-6) to third ranked Almat.Legion (6-9) 83-82 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Kapshagay. 26 personal fouls committed by Kapshagay helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. International guard Yuriy Kozhanov (190-90) stepped up and scored 32 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and the former international center Vsevolod Fadeikin (206-85) chipped in 27 points and 9 rebounds. The former international swingman Konstantin Dvirniy (192-88) responded with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Almat.Legion have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 6-9 record having six points less than leader Bars. Kapshagay at the other side keeps the second position with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Important game to mention about took place in Alma-Ata. Fourth ranked Kazygurt (3-12) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 3rd placed Almat.Legion (6-9) 96-95 on Friday evening. In the last game of round 5 Kapshagay was destroyed by Tobol on the opponent's court 92-67.

Tobol - Almat.Legion 105-69

The game between Top Four teams took place in Kostanay. First ranked host Tobol (12-3) smashed 3rd placed Almat.Legion (6-9) 105-69. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Almat.Legion. Tobol forced 25 Almat.Legion turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Almat.Legion's players. The best player for the winners was forward Anton Bykov (200-89) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Swingman Maksim Voeykov (195-85) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds. Five Tobol players scored in double figures. Center Alexander Danilchenko (203-97) produced 19 points and 7 rebounds and the former international center Vsevolod Fadeikin (206-85) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests.
