Anton Bykov (200-F-89) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league's leader Tobol and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Higher League Player of the Week award for round 3 (Second Stage). The 27-year old forward had the game-high 31 points adding nine rebounds and four assists for Tobol in his team's victory, helping them to outclass Kazygurt (#4, 2-10) with 26-point margin 99-73. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Tobol to jump to the first place in the Kazakhstan Higher League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier in Second Stage. Tobol has a very solid 9-3 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. In the team's last game Bykov had a remarkable 86.7% from 2-point range. He turned to be Tobol's top player in his first season with the team. Bykov has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (6th best: 17.7ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 10.7rpg) and averages solid 66.2% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young forward Ulykbek Polatov (189-F-98) of Kazygurt. Polatov impressed basketball fans with 34 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Bad luck as Kazygurt lost that game 76-93 to Kapshagay (8-4). The Second Stage is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Polatov is a newcomer at Kazygurt and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.
The third best performed player last round was Russian center Vsevolod Fadeikin (206-C-85) of Almat.Legion (#3). Fadeikin scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds. He was a key player of Almat.Legion, leading his team to a 90-76 easy win against #2 ranked Kapshagay in a game of the week. The chances of Almat.Legion ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 7 games, recording just five victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Fadeikin could help Almat.Legion to bring them higher in the standings. Fadeikin has a great season in Kazakhstan. After 18 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.0ppg (5th best) and rebounds with 7.7rpg (5th best). Vsevolod Fadeikin has also Kazakhstan passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Yuriy Kozhanov (190-G-90) of Almat.Legion - 23 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists 5. Andrey Moroy (198-F-99) of Kapshagay - 15 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists 6. Farid Karimullin (193-F-87) of Tobol - 29 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists 7.
