Greek Leonidas Kaselakis (202-SF-90) put on an amazing game in the last round for top-ranked Astana, receiving a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 7. The 26-year old player was the main contributor (24 points, nine rebounds and four assists) to his team's victory, helping them to crush, the league's bottom-ranked team Kaspiy Aktau (#3, 0-10) with 19-point margin 72-53. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Astana to consolidate first place in the Kazakhstan D1. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. It's already very far into the season and Astana keeps a perfect 10-0 record. In the team's last game Kaselakis had a remarkable 62.5% from 2-point range. He turned to be Astana's top player in his first season with the team. Leonidas Kaselakis averages this season 17.3ppg, 8.0rpg and 4.8apg.
The second best player in last round's games was another Astana's star - 30-year old former international swingman Rustam Yargaliev (195-G/F-86). Yargaliev had a very good evening with 21 points. Of course together with Kaselakis he helped Astana with another comfortable win 77-59 over Kaspiy Aktau (#3, 0-10) being unquestionably team leader. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Astana consolidated its place in the very top position of the standings. He plays for the best team in the league and Astana managed to win all 10 games keeping a perfect record. Yargaliev is one of the most experienced players at Astana and similarly like Leonidas Kaselakis has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 14.3ppg (#4). He also recorded 3.1 assists per game.
Third on the list of top players last round was guard Azim Yagodkin (185-PG-92) of Kaspiy Aktau (#3). Yagodkin scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Despite Yagodkin's great performance Kaspiy Aktau lost 59-77 to #1 ranked Astana. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. Kaspiy Aktau can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 10 games. Too bad for Yagodkin he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Yagodkin has individually a great season in Kazakhstan. After only 9 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 14.0ppg (5th best), rebounds with 4.9rpg (7th best) and assists with 5.3apg (2nd best).
