The most exciting game of round 5 in the Higher League took place in Kokshetau. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Kazygurt (3-2) to eighth ranked Okzetpes (2-3) 93-90 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Kazygurt. Okzetpes forced 23 Kazygurt turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Center Vladimir Ivanov (203-94) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Sergei Khrenkov (194-94) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Okzetpes' coach Vladimir Vasiliev used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Swingman Kirill Nikulochkin (190-88) answered with 25 points and 5 steals for Kazygurt. Okzetpes moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Bars. Kazygurt at the other side keeps the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with Barsy-2. Okzetpes is looking forward to face Tigers Ast. (#9) in Astana in the next round. Kazygurt will play at home against Kaspiy-2 (#10) and is hoping to win this game.
Higher League top team - Kapshagay (5-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed fifth ranked Bars (2-3) in Petropavlovsk 59-31. Forward Vyacheslav Raguyev (195-93) stepped up and scored 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and Konstantin Dvirniy chipped in 15 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Forward Aleksandr Antropov (195-93) responded with 9 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Kapshagay have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 5-0 record. Bars lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with Okzetpes. Kapshagay will play against Almat.Legion (#3) in Alma-Ata in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Bars will have a break next round.

Tobol maintains second place with 4-1 record behind leader Kapshagay, which they share with Almat.Legion. Kaspiy-2 lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Tobol will meet at home Irtysh (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Kaspiy-2 will play against Kazygurt in Shymkent and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Almat.Legion's next round opponent will be league's leader Kapshagay at home and it will be for sure the game of the week. Irtysh will play against the league's second-placed Tobol (#2) in Kostanay and hope to win that game.

In the last game of round 5 Barsy-2 beat Tigers Ast. on the road 61-50.

Tobol - Kaspiy-2 74-36

Bottom-ranked Kaspiy-2 is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their fifth consecutive match to second ranked Tobol (4-1) 74-36 on Sunday evening. Tobol made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game, while Kaspiy-2 only scored 0 point from the stripe. They outrebounded Kaspiy-2 38-16 including a 26-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. Tobol looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Guard Aleksandr Papshiv (191-91) nailed 23 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals for the winning side and forward Rustam Valiev (186-99) accounted for 17 points and 8 rebounds. Point guard Bogdan Ivanchikin (175-0) came up with 14 points and guard Danil Davletbaev (185-99) added 4 points and 7 assists respectively for Kaspiy-2 in the defeat. Tobol maintains second place with 4-1 record behind leader Kapshagay, which they share with Almat.Legion. Kaspiy-2 lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Irtysh - Almat.Legion 28-86

The game in Pavlodar supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked Almat.Legion (4-1) played at the court of 7th ranked Irtysh (1-4). Almat.Legion smashed Irtysh 86-28. Almat.Legion held Irtysh to an opponent 21.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 60.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Almat.Legion forced 21 Irtysh turnovers and outrebounded them 37-19 including a 25-9 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Irtysh's players. The best player for the winners was center Alexander Danilchenko (203-97) who scored 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Swingman Ruslan Aitkali (195-97) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. The best player for the winners was point guard Ilyas Zhunussov (175-98) who scored 17 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Forward Artem Parfenov (196-98) chipped in 4 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Barsy-2's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international point guard Egor Biryulin (186-86) produced 19 points and 4 assists and guard Evgeniy Ermakov (188-89) added 9 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The victory was the third consecutive win for Barsy-2. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Kazygurt.
