Astana added two more wins to their perfect D1 record. They handed Kapshagay back-to-back defeats to stay on top of the ladder at 12-0 record.
The first game ended with Astana claming an 83:75 victory. David Simon (208-C-82, college: IPFW) provided 19 points to pace the winners. Kapshagay surprised the defending champions with a 16:12 run in the opening quarter. Astana shook off sloppiness in the second quarter. The reigning champions erupted for 36 points in the next period to take a 48:37 halftime lead. Kapshagay maintained the pressure on the hosts in the third term. The visitors cut the deficit at 5-point mark at the final intermission. But Astana held on for a lead throughout the fourth frame and sealed the win at the end. Branko Cvetkovic (200-F/G-84, agency: Beo Basket) netted 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, while Andreas Glyniadakis (215-C-81, agency: Beo Basket) and Rawle Marshall (201-SF-82, agency: Beo Basket, college: Oakland) added 13 points each for the winners. Yuriy Kozhanov (194-G-90) answered with 24 points for Kapshagay. Konstantin Marzan (204-C-88) chipped in 12 points in the loss.
Next game was an easier affair for Astana. They clinched a 98:76 victory at the end. The hosts started strong as they cleared off to a 22-point halftime lead. Astana maintained the lead throughout the second half and claimed the winning outcome at the end. Anton Ponomaryov (210-C/F-88, agency: Beo Basket) provided 17 points for the winners. Vsevolod Fadeikin (208-C-85) added 13 points for Astana. Maksim Otbozin (210-C-80) topscored with 17 points for Kapshagay.

Guaros de Lara (LPB) agreed terms with experienced 34-year old Kazakhstani international point guard Jerry Johnson (182-76kg-82, college: Rider, agency: BeoBasket). He is a dual citizen owning also American passport. Johnson has played for the last five seasons at BK Astana in Kazakhstan D1 league. Defending champion BK Barsy Atyrau (D1) added to their roster experienced 36-year old Ukrainian center Vadim Matyukevych (209-109kg-80). It is actually his comeback to Atyrau as he has played here before. Matyukevych played last season at BC Odessa in Ukrainian Superleague. Al Ahli began their run at the revived Asia Champions Cup basketball competition on Saturday in dominant fashion, beating overwhelmed Barsy Atyrau of Kazakhstan 105-68 in Chenzhou, China.
