Dongbu Promy Winner Of The 2008 KBL CROWN
The Korean Basketball 2008
Championships are in the history Books As Dongbu Promy defeats Samsung Thunders
in 5 games to Capture Another KBL Crown 90-74, Kim Joo-Sung led all scores with
32 pts Okosa Reggie added 14 rebounds, this marks the 3rd KBL Crown for Head
Coach
Chun Chang-Jin .
After suffering a loss in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) championship series
on Monday, there were some questions surrounding the Dongbu Promy.
How would they respond to their first defeat in the series?
Would they be able to correct the free-throw shooting problems that haunted them
down the stretch in that game? Could they slow down a Samsung Thunders team that
was gaining confidence and momentum?
The Promy answered all of those questions by bouncing back with a dominating
performance on Wednesday night, beating the Thunders 90-77 at Jamsil Gymnasium.
The victory avenged the Promy's 88-87 loss on Monday, while extending their lead
in the best-of-seven series to 3-1. They can capture the KBL championship if
they win Game 5 of the series, which tips off at 5:50 p.m. Friday in Jamsil.
``We really wanted to win today's game,'' Promy post player Kim Joo-sung said.
`` We studied tape from the loss and figured out what went wrong. We want to
finish the series in Game 5.''
Kim, the KBL's Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the all-star game and regular
season, was one of five Promy players to score in double figures in their latest
win, as he finished with 25 points to go with eight rebounds.
Reggie Okosa added 19 points and eight rebounds for the Promy, while Lee
Kwang-jae provided 16 points, Carlos Dixon 13 points, and Pyo Myoung-il 12
points and seven assists.
After clinging to a 26-23 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Promy added
to their advantage until they were up by as many as 24 points in the third
quarter.
The Thunders, led by Terrence Leather, who finished with 30 points and 14
rebounds, cut their deficit to 75-62 at the end of the third, but never
threatened to overtake the lead.
Both teams shot well form the floor, as the Promy made 31-of-56 (55 percent)
field-goal attempts, while the Thunders made 31-of-55 (56 percent).
However, the Promy shot better from the free-throw line, aking 20-of-25 (80
percent) from the stripe, while the Thunders made 8-of-13 (62 percent). The
Promy's foul shooting was an improvement from Monday, when they missed four
shots from the line in the final 1 1/2 minutes.
Turnover were also a factor on Wednesday, as the Promy committed just eight,
while the Thunders gave the ball away 20 times.
After putting to rest any doubts as to if they could bounce back from their
loss, the biggest question surrounding the Promy now is whether they can win
Game 5 to clinch the series. A victory would give the club its third
championship with the other two coming in 2003 and 2005 when it was known as the
TG Xers.
