AMMAN (FIBA Asia Championship/FIBA Basketball World Cup) - Jordan have had no shortage of drama in recent years in international basketball.

That is certainly the case right now, with fans having to sit on the edge of their seats and wait for the country's hoops federation to announce who will serve as coach at the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship.

The event will serve as the qualifying tournament for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

When asked by FIBA.com if Jordan had decided who will coach the team, JBA secretary general Ibrahim Sharawi answered: "No, not yet."

Asked when an appointment was expected and if there are any candidates, Sharawi said: "Beginning of March 2013 and no candidates at this moment."

Despite the uncertainty, there is no doubt about the confidence in the Jordan camp.

"Jordan has a big chance to qualify for the next World Cup in Spain in 2014," Sharawi said.

Results at the last two FIBA Asia Championships are positive proof that Jordan can never be taken lightly.

The team rebounded from a two-point defeat to Iran in the Semi-Finals in 2009 and beat Lebanon to seal a spot at the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

Once in Turkey, Jordan almost upset Australia in their first game but fell, 76-75.

They lost the rest of their games in that tournament but then under coach Tab Baldwin ended the title defense of Iran at the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship with an 88-84 triumph in the Quarter-Finals.

China scraped a 70-69 win against them in the Final, though, to claim a place at the London Games.

The team's explosive scorer, naturalized guard Rasheim Wright from the United States, then did not play at the 2012 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament and Jordan crashed out of the event following heavy defeats to Greece and Puerto Rico.

Jordan fans may not have seen the last of Wright.

When asked if there was a chance that he would return, Sharawi said: "Rasheim will play again for the Jordan national team."
