Japanese B League round 15 best performance: Joshua Smith - Dec 6, 2017

Joshua Smith
American Center Joshua Smith (208-C-92) had a very impressive game in the last round for second-ranked Kyoto Hannar., receiving a Player of the Week award for round 15.
The 25-year old player had a double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds, while his team Kyoto Hannar. is placed at 2nd position in their group in Japanese B League. Kyoto Hannar. is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. But it was their 9th lost game this season out of 19 games. Smith turned to be Kyoto Hannar.'s top player in his first season with the team. Joshua Smith averages this season 13.4ppg and 6.5rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was 24-year old American Josh Scott (208-F-93, agency: Pensack Sports) of Shimane SM. Scott had a very good evening with a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds. Bad luck as Shimane SM was edged by slightly higher-ranked Hokkaido L. (#5, 10-9) 88-84. Shimane SM managed to keep the same 5th spot in East. 14 lost games are too many comparing to just five victories Shimane SM managed to get this year. Scott is a newcomer at Shimane SM, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Kyoto Hannar.'s star - Zimbabwean forward Julian Mavunga (203-PF-90, agency: Pensack Sports). Mavunga showcased his all-around game by recording 28 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in the last round. Despite Mavunga's great performance Kyoto Hannar. lost 97-105 to the lower-ranked Nagoya DD (#5, 7-12). But his team cannot count on just these two top stars as they also need help of the other teammates. The last thing Kyoto Hannar. needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams in West. Their record is 10 victories and 9 lost games. Mavunga has a great season in Japan. After 19 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 4.3apg (9th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Marc Trasolini (206-F/C-90) of Hokkaido L. - 27 points, 15 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Davante Gardner (203-PF-91) of Niigata Albirex - 34 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Robert Sacre (213-C-89) of Hitachi SR - 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists
7. Gavin Edwards (206-F/C-88) of Chiba Jets - 22 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists
8. Lawrence Blackledge (206-F-86) of San-en - 23 points and 6 rebounds
9. JR Sakuragi (206-C-76) of SeaHorses - 14 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists
10. Takaya Sasayama (178-G-93) of Nagoya DD - 18 points, 3 rebounds and 9 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
