Edwards
28-year old power forward Gavin Edwards (206-F/C-88) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's best team SeaHorses and receives a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 51.
He had the game-high 22 points adding eight rebounds and three assists for SeaHorses in his team's victory, helping them to beat Kyoto Hannar. (#5, 22-27) 83-69. It allowed SeaHorses to consolidate first place in the Japanese league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. SeaHorses has a very solid 39-10 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. In the team's last game Edwards had a remarkable 77.8% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at SeaHorses, through which he has constantly improved. Gavin Edwards averages this season 14.7ppg and 7.6rpg.

Second best performed player last round was Ira Brown (193-F-82) of Hitachi SR. He is naturalized American forward in his 3rd season at Hitachi SR. In the last game Brown recorded impressive double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds. Bad luck as Hitachi SR lost that game 70-79 to the lower-ranked Toyama Grouses (#6, 14-35). Hitachi SR managed to keep the same 3rd spot in Central. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 24-25 record. Brown is one of the most experienced players at Hitachi SR and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Yuki Togashi (170-PG-93) of Chiba Jets (#3). Togashi scored 28 points. He was a key player of Chiba Jets, leading his team to a 95-73 easy win against slightly lower-ranked Akita NH (#5, 15-34). Chiba Jets needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams in East. Their record at this point is 34 victories and 15 lost games. Togashi has a great season in Japan. After 49 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 4.0apg (4th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Nick Fazekas (211-F-85) of Toshiba BT - 23 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Xavier Gibson (210-F/C-88) of Osaka Evessa - 23 points and 7 rebounds
6. Makoto Hiejima (190-G/F-90) of SeaHorses - 22 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists
7. Josh Childress (203-F/G-83) of Sanen - 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists
8. Davante Gardner (203-PF-91) of Niigata Albirex - 25 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Leo Lyons (206-F-87) of Akita NH - 16 points and 12 rebounds
10. Hilton Armstrong (210-C-84) of Chiba Jets - 9 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Alvark capture B. League title - 1 day ago
Championships are won with well-orchestrated teamwork. The Alvark Tokyo did just that and played a polished, patient but aggressive game on Saturday. They showcased flashy plays but mostly stuck with their bread-and-butter offense, moving the ball and taking shots in players' comfort zones. Smart plan. Conversely, the Chiba Jets Funabashi had no sustained answers for the Alvark's methodical offense, and Tokyo controlled large stretches of their showdown. It all added up to a comprehensive...   [read more]
