Best players of Japanese B League round 50 - Apr 3, 2017

Nick Fazekas
Experienced American Nick Fazekas (211-F-85) had a very impressive game in the last round for league's leader Toshiba BT and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 50.
The 31-year old forward had a double-double of 32 points and seventeen rebounds, while his team crushed Yokohama BC (#5, 15-34) with 17-point margin 85-68. It allowed Toshiba BT to consolidate first place in the Japanese B League. Toshiba BT have a solid 41-8 record. Fazekas has many years of experience at Toshiba BT, through which he has constantly improved. The University of Nevada graduate has very impressive stats this year. Fazekas is league's best scorer averaging so far 27.7ppg. Fazekas is in league's top in rebounds (2nd best: 12.4rpg) and averages solid 57.4% FGP and 45.2% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 26-year old Zimbabwean power forward Julian Mavunga (203-PF-90, agency: Pensack Sports) of Shiga L-Stars. Mavunga impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Shiga L-Stars was edged by slightly higher-ranked Osaka Evessa (#4, 23-26) 81-78. Shiga L-Stars managed to keep the same 6th spot in West. 37 lost games are too many comparing to just twelve victories Shiga L-Stars managed to get this year. Mavunga is well-known by Shiga L-Stars fans and he already established his position as one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.6ppg (#4). His other stats are also decent: 8.2rpg and 3.4apg.

The third best performed player last round was American Lamont Hamilton (208-C/F-84) of second-ranked Ryukyu GK. Hamilton showcased his all-around game by recording 24 points, ten rebounds and five assists in the last round. He was a key player of Ryukyu GK, leading his team to a 82-76 win against #3 ranked Nagoya DD in a game of the week. The chances of Ryukyu GK ranking at the top of West, however are very questionable as they have already lost 25 games, recording just twenty four victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Hamilton could help Ryukyu GK to bring them higher in the standings. Hamilton has a very solid season. In 48 games in Japan he scored 12.1ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Daniel Miller (211-C-91) of Hokkaido L. - 25 points and 13 rebounds
5. Ryan Rossiter (204-F/C-89) of Tochigi Brex - 21 points, 16 rebounds and 2 assists
6. JR Sakuragi (206-C-76) of SeaHorses - 24 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Josh Childress (203-F/G-83) of Sanen - 33 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Clint Chapman (208-F/C-89) of Niigata Albirex - 23 points and 8 rebounds
9. Greg Mangano (208-PF-89) of Sendai 89ers - 18 points, 15 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Davante Gardner (203-PF-91) of Niigata Albirex - 21 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Hometown hero Shintaro Kobayashi steals the show at B. League All-Star Game in Kumamoto - 3 days ago
The players didn't take themselves too seriously during the second annual B. League All-Star Game. Instead of focusing on lock-down defense for the full 40 minutes, they aimed to please. They put the focus on scoring points in a hurry with an emphasis on razzle-dazzle plays and lots of 3-point shots. In other words, it was standard fare for an All-Star contest. And on this day they often over-exaggerated their moves, such as a player falling backward after taking a mock charge or putting...   [read more]

The Chiba Jets Funabashi rose to the occasion once again. They set the prevailing pace in the second and third quarters and captured their second consecutive Emperor's Cup with a 89-75 victory over the SeaHorses Mikawa at the 93rd All-Japan Championship final on Sunday.
