Japanese B League D2 round 49 best performance: Ryan Stephan - Mar 27, 2017

Ryan Stephan
American Center Ryan Stephan (208-C-94) had a great game in the last round for Tokyo Excel., receiving a Asia-basket.com B League D2 Player of the Week award for round 49.
The 22-year old player was the main contributor (25 points, eight rebounds and three assists) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out Bambitious Nara (#5, 18-30) 106-104. Tokyo Excel. maintains the 4th position in their group in Japanese B League D2. Tokyo Excel. is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 19-28 record. In the team's last game Stephan had a remarkable 80.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Tokyo Excel.'s top player in his first season with the team. Former Mesa State University star has very solid stats this year. Stephan is in league's top in points (6th best: 17.6ppg), rebounds (6th best: 10.8rpg) and averages impressive 56.1% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 28-year old American Donald Lawson (208-C-88) of Iwate Big Bulls. Lawson had a very good evening with a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds. Of course Iwate Big Bulls cruised to a 83-75 relatively comfortable win over the higher-ranked Fukushima (#2, 26-22). Iwate Big Bulls' 6th position in East has not changed. 36 lost games are too many comparing to just twelve victories Iwate Big Bulls managed to get this year. Lawson is a newcomer at Iwate Big Bulls, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was American forward Chehales Tapscott (195-F-90) of Kagawa FA (#5). Tapscott showcased his all-around game by recording 29 points, nine rebounds and four assists in the last round. Despite Tapscott's great performance Kagawa FA lost 77-87 to the higher-ranked Hiroshima D. (#2, 38-10). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Kagawa FA can only dream about fighting for top spots in West. They have rather bad season and 14-34 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Tapscott he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Tapscott has individually a great season in Japan. After 48 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.2ppg (best scorer) and assists with 3.1apg (8th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Josh Davis (203-F-91) of Shimane SM - 19 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Daniel Dillon (193-G-86) of Hiroshima D. - 26 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Nicchaeus Doaks (201-F/C-87) of Iwate Big Bulls - 21 points and 21 rebounds
7. Solomon Alabi (216-C-88) of Toyotsu FE - 21 points and 15 rebounds
8. Scootie Randall (198-F-90) of Cyberdyne IR - 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists
9. Ryota Nakanishi (199-F/C-88) of Kumamoto V. - 25 points and 5 rebounds
10. Jordan Vandenberg (216-C-90) of Nishinomiya S. - 17 points and 8 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
