American guard Draelon Burns (194-G-85, agency: Top Notch Sports) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked Yokohama BC, receiving a Asia-basket.com BJ League Player of the Week award for round 28.
The 27-year old player had a double-double of 27 points and 13 rebounds, while his team beat Akita NH (#5, 14-10) 92-81. Yokohama BC is placed at 2nd position in Japanese BJ League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Yokohama BC will need more victories to improve their 20-8 record. In the team's last game Burns had a remarkable 64.3% from 2-point range. He turned to be Yokohama BC's top player in his first season with the team. Former De Paul University star has very solid stats this year. Burns is in league's top in points (3rd best: 20.8ppg), assists (5th best: 4.9apg) and averages impressive 2.3spg and 40.6% from behind 3-point line.

The second best player in last round's games was 28-year old American Jeral Davis (216-C-84) of Shimane SM. Davis had a very good evening with a double-double of 24 points and 15 rebounds. Of course he lead Shimane SM to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Miyazaki SS (#10, 4-22) 99-69. Shimane SM's 3rd position in the standings has not changed. His team's 17-9 record is not bad at all. Davis is one of the most experienced players at Shimane SM and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. Former star Davis is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Yokohama BC's star - American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-F-87, agency: Global Sports Plaza). Kennedy scored 25 points and grabbed eleven rebounds (!!!). He was another key player of Yokohama BC, helping his team with a 92-81 win against the lower-ranked Akita NH (#5, 14-10). Yokohama BC needs these victories very badly if they think about taking over top position in the standings. Their record at this point is 20 victories and 8 lost games. Kennedy has a great season in Japan. After 28 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.1ppg (8th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Wendell White (198-G-84) of Hamamatsu P. - 23 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Dionisio Gomez Camargo (203-F-80) of Shiga L-Stars - 24 points and 10 rebounds
6. Marcus Cousin (211-C-86) of Kyoto Hannar. - 20 points and 12 rebounds
7. Draelon Burns (194-G-85) of Yokohama BC - 20 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists
8. Benjamin Puckett (205-FC-83) of Shimane SM - 21 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists
9. Leonardo Pomare (203-F-86) of Kyoto Hannar. - 17 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Jeremy Jacob (203-F-87) of Toyama Grouses - 25 points and 11 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Ryan Stephan
Ryan Stephan is a newcomer at Tokyo Excellence - 20 hours ago

Tokyo Excellence (B League D2) strengthened their roster with addition of American center Ryan Stephan (208-113kg). He just graduated from Colorado Mesa (NCAA2). In 27 games he recorded very impressive stats: 25.1ppg, 11.1rpg and 1.7apg last season. Stephan helped them to make it to the semifinals. Great season indeed as he was selected All-RMAC Player of the Year and voted to All-RMAC 1st Team and voted to RMAC All-Tournament Team. The previous (2015) summer he played at South West Metro...   [read more]

Akita Happinets welcome back Stephens, ex Chalons-Reims - 1 day ago

Akita Northern Happinets (B League) tabbed 27-year old American forward Deshawn Stephens (203-102kg-89, college: San Diego State). It is actually his comeback to Akita Happinets as he has played here before. Stephens played most recently at Chalons-Reims in French ProA. He managed to play in four leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 19 ProA games he averaged 8.9ppg and 3.8rpg. Stephens also played that season for Banvit in BSL. But in four games he had just 1.3ppg and 1.8rpg. He a...   [read more]
More uncertainty trailing former league stats - 3 days ago

According to Japan times, should statistical records from the bj-league, the JBL and its successor (NBL), the JBL2 and its successor (NBDL) be kept handy and recited frequently for the B. League? Or should the accomplishments of players and teams in Japan's men's basketball circuits be stored away and ignored, with the slate wiped clean for the upstart circuit? Statistical accomplishments help fans and the media gain knowledge and appreciation for players and teams, so starting from scr...   [read more]
