Joe Werner
n the second of the weekend's two game series, Marquin Chandler (202-F-82, college: San Jose St.) sank five points in quick succession to break an early deadlock midway through a very physical 1Q, leading the Chiba Jets to a 14-11 lead come the first break and giving an indication of the game to come.
Never again were the visitors to come close to outscoring their hosts with Joe Werner (201-C-84, college: Wisc.-La Cros.), breaking up most of the Shinshu Brave Warriors Nagano attacks on the basket going into the first break, adding four points of his own to the team tally after 10:00, 13 total on 27:35 played come the final buzzer.
D'Andre Bell (198-G/F-87, college: Georgia Tech) started quietly in the first qarter with 3 points off 2:19 played before stepping up to nail 8 more by half-time, 23 total at the end of the fourth, and by the midway point the game was all but over at 32-19; a score that flattered Shinshu far more than the hosts.
The 3Q started a lot slower as the 'two foreigners' rule kicked-in, but with the physical aspect giving way to a more technical game, the set-plays of both teams saw Chiba net 25 in the quarter to the visitors' 18 on their way to a 20-point 57-37 lead for the final period, D'Andre Bell contributing 9, Joe Werner and Marquin Chandler 7 apiece.
The 4Q saw both teams revert to the 3 foreigners lineup they used so often throughout, with Shinshu's point-man, Takanori Goya (190-G-83), all-but blanked after a decent 7 points in 8.09 play in 1Q but just one more after a further 13.56 of court time returning to net 4 in the last period; much too little much too late as the Jets swept the series 2-0 on the back of a hugely one-sided 84-55.

Toshiba BT - Tochigi Brex 69-60 Toshiba Brave Thunders advanced into NBL Finals. They held off Tochigi Brex in the decisive third game of the semifinal series. Tochigi Brex - Toshiba BT 69-76 Toshiba Brave Thunders upset Tochigi Brex to even the semifinal series at 1-1. It looked good early as Tochigi Brex took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Toshiba Thunders had a 21-16 second period charge getting the lead and Tochigi Brex was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-76. Toshiba Thunders made 16-of-20 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Neva...   [read more]
