Joe Werner
n the second of the weekend's two game series, Marquin Chandler (202-F-82, college: San Jose St.) sank five points in quick succession to break an early deadlock midway through a very physical 1Q, leading the Chiba Jets to a 14-11 lead come the first break and giving an indication of the game to come.
Never again were the visitors to come close to outscoring their hosts with Joe Werner (201-C-84, college: Wisc.-La Cros.), breaking up most of the Shinshu Brave Warriors Nagano attacks on the basket going into the first break, adding four points of his own to the team tally after 10:00, 13 total on 27:35 played come the final buzzer.
D'Andre Bell (198-G/F-87, college: Georgia Tech) started quietly in the first qarter with 3 points off 2:19 played before stepping up to nail 8 more by half-time, 23 total at the end of the fourth, and by the midway point the game was all but over at 32-19; a score that flattered Shinshu far more than the hosts.
The 3Q started a lot slower as the 'two foreigners' rule kicked-in, but with the physical aspect giving way to a more technical game, the set-plays of both teams saw Chiba net 25 in the quarter to the visitors' 18 on their way to a 20-point 57-37 lead for the final period, D'Andre Bell contributing 9, Joe Werner and Marquin Chandler 7 apiece.
The 4Q saw both teams revert to the 3 foreigners lineup they used so often throughout, with Shinshu's point-man, Takanori Goya (190-G-83), all-but blanked after a decent 7 points in 8.09 play in 1Q but just one more after a further 13.56 of court time returning to net 4 in the last period; much too little much too late as the Jets swept the series 2-0 on the back of a hugely one-sided 84-55.

Japan Basketball Association dismisses men's national team coach Hasegawa - 4 hours ago

Since his appointment two years ago, Kenji Hasegawa has firmly developed the Japan men's national team. But with the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo on the horizon, for which the team has not been guaranteed a spot, the Japan Basketball Association made a daring decision. The nation's basketball governing body announced on Thursday that it had parted ways with Hasegawa at the end of November. The JBA has already started a search for Hasegawa's successor, who will likely be a foreigner. JBA...   [read more]

Deon Jones agreed terms with Earthfriends Tokyo Z - 8 hours ago

Earthfriends Tokyo Z (B League D2) inked 23-year old American guard Deon Jones (198-95kg-93). He just graduated from Monmouth (NCAA). Jones has played there for the last three years. In 31 games he recorded 10.4ppg, 6.3rpg and 1.1apg last season. Jones helped them to win the regular season and make it to the MAAC Tournament final. A very good season in his career as he was voted to All-MAAC 3rd Team. As mentioned above he is just out of the college and it will be his first season in pro b...   [read more]
