Nick Fazekas
American Nick Fazekas (211-F-85) had a great game in the last round for Toshiba BT and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 9.
The 27-year old forward had a double-double of 19 points and nineteen rebounds, while his team beat Tochigi Brex (#7, 4-14) 68-60. Toshiba BT maintains the 4th position in Japanese JBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Toshiba BT will need more victories to improve their 10-8 record. Fazekas turned to be Toshiba BT's top player in his first season with the team. The University of Nevada graduate has very impressive stats this year. Fazekas is league's best scorer averaging so far 23.3ppg. Fazekas is in league's top in rebounds (3rd best: 11.7rpg) and averages solid 60.2% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 35-year old American Jameel Watkins (211-C/F-77) of Panasonic T.. Watkins impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds. Bad luck as Panasonic T. lost that game 77-89 to the lower-ranked Hokkaido L. (#8, 2-16). Panasonic T. managed to keep the same 3rd spot in the standings. His team's 11-7 record is not bad at all. Watkins is a newcomer at Panasonic T. and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 17.9ppg (#3). He also registered 12.5 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was another Panasonic T.'s star - Takanori Onishi (195-F-83). Onishi scored 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He was another key player of Panasonic T., helping his team with a 92-77 easy win against the lower-ranked Hokkaido L. (#8, 2-16). Panasonic T. needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 11 victories and 7 lost games. Onishi has a very solid season. In 16 games in Japan he scored 11.1ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Jamar Smith (206-F/C-80) of Hitachi SR - 24 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Jameel Watkins (211-C/F-77) of Panasonic T. - 20 points and 14 rebounds
6. J.R. Sakuragi (206-F/C-76) of Aishin SH - 17 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists
7. Jeff Gibbs (188-F-80) of Toyota Alvark - 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Takehiko Orimo (190-G-70) of Hokkaido L. - 22 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists
9. J.R. Sakuragi (206-F/C-76) of Aishin SH - 13 points, 15 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Ryan Stephan
Ryan Stephan is a newcomer at Tokyo Excellence - 8 hours ago

Tokyo Excellence (B League D2) strengthened their roster with addition of American center Ryan Stephan (208-113kg). He just graduated from Colorado Mesa (NCAA2). In 27 games he recorded very impressive stats: 25.1ppg, 11.1rpg and 1.7apg last season. Stephan helped them to make it to the semifinals. Great season indeed as he was selected All-RMAC Player of the Year and voted to All-RMAC 1st Team and voted to RMAC All-Tournament Team. The previous (2015) summer he played at South West Metro...   [read more]

Akita Happinets welcome back Stephens, ex Chalons-Reims - 1 day ago

Akita Northern Happinets (B League) tabbed 27-year old American forward Deshawn Stephens (203-102kg-89, college: San Diego State). It is actually his comeback to Akita Happinets as he has played here before. Stephens played most recently at Chalons-Reims in French ProA. He managed to play in four leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 19 ProA games he averaged 8.9ppg and 3.8rpg. Stephens also played that season for Banvit in BSL. But in four games he had just 1.3ppg and 1.8rpg. He a...   [read more]
More uncertainty trailing former league stats - 3 days ago

According to Japan times, should statistical records from the bj-league, the JBL and its successor (NBL), the JBL2 and its successor (NBDL) be kept handy and recited frequently for the B. League? Or should the accomplishments of players and teams in Japan's men's basketball circuits be stored away and ignored, with the slate wiped clean for the upstart circuit? Statistical accomplishments help fans and the media gain knowledge and appreciation for players and teams, so starting from scr...   [read more]
