American Jameel Watkins (211-C/F-77) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Panasonic T., receiving a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 35-year old player had a double-double of 25 points and 16 rebounds, while his team beat Hitachi SR (#4, 9-7) 79-71. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Panasonic T. maintains the 3rd position in Japanese JBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Panasonic T. will need more victories to improve their 10-6 record. Watkins turned to be Panasonic T.'s top player in his first season with the team. Former Georgetown University star has very solid stats this year. Watkins is in league's top in points (2nd best: 17.8ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 12.3rpg) and averages impressive 2.0bpg and 58.2% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 36-year old American power forward J.R. Sakuragi (206-F/C-76) of league's second-best Aishin SH. Sakuragi had a very good evening with a double-double of 27 points and 15 rebounds. Of course he lead Aishin SH to another comfortable win 81-66 over the lower-ranked Hokkaido L. (#8, 1-15) being unquestionably team leader. Aishin SH's second position in the standings has not changed. His team lost just three games this season, while they won 13 matches. Sakuragi is one of the most experienced players at Aishin SH and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 15.0ppg (#6). His other stats are also decent: 12.6rpg and 4.1apg.

Third on the list of top players last round was American forward Nick Fazekas (211-F-85) of Toshiba BT (#5). Fazekas got into 30-points club by scoring 31 points in the last round. He went also for sixteen rebounds . Despite Fazekas' great performance Toshiba BT lost 86-87 to slightly lower-ranked Mitsubishi DD (#6, 5-11). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Toshiba BT needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 9 victories and 7 lost games. Fazekas has a great season in Japan. After 14 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 23.3ppg (best scorer) and rebounds with 11.7rpg (3rd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Nick Fazekas (211-F-85) of Toshiba BT - 23 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Joji Takeuchi (207-F/C-85) of Hitachi SR - 22 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists
6. J.R. Sakuragi (206-F/C-76) of Aishin SH - 13 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists
7. Jeff Gibbs (188-F-80) of Toyota Alvark - 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Jeff Gibbs (188-F-80) of Toyota Alvark - 11 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists
9. Naoto Tsuji (185-G/F-89) of Toshiba BT - 24 points and 3 assists
10. Jamar Smith (206-F/C-80) of Hitachi SR - 17 points and 15 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
