American Nick Fazekas (211-F-85) had an amazing evening in the last round for Toshiba BT and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 6.
The 27-year old forward had a double-double of 31 points and fourteen rebounds, while his team outclassed Hokkaido L. (#8, 1-11) with 31-point margin 94-63. Toshiba BT maintains the 4th position in Japanese JBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Toshiba BT will need more victories to improve their 8-4 record. Fazekas turned to be Toshiba BT's top player in his first season with the team. The University of Nevada graduate has very impressive stats this year. Fazekas is league's best scorer averaging so far 20.5ppg. Fazekas is in league's top in rebounds (3rd best: 10.4rpg) and averages solid 63.2% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 35-year old American Jameel Watkins (211-C/F-77) of Panasonic T.. Watkins impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 25 points and 17 rebounds. Bad luck as Panasonic T. was edged by slightly higher-ranked Aishin SH (#2, 9-3) 84-80. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Panasonic T. still maintains its place in the top 3 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 8-4 record is not bad at all. Watkins is a newcomer at Panasonic T. and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 17.3ppg (#3). He also registered 12.0 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was American Jeff Gibbs (188-F-80) of top-ranked Toyota Alvark. Gibbs scored 27 points and grabbed eleven rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Toyota Alvark, leading his team to a 76-69 win against the lower-ranked Hitachi SR (#5, 6-6). Toyota Alvark confirms their top position in the standings Gibbs has a great season in Japan. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 7.8rpg (7th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Tilo Klette (206-C/F-77) of Hokkaido L. - 25 points and 14 rebounds
5. Nick Fazekas (211-F-85) of Toshiba BT - 21 points and 12 rebounds
6. J.R. Sakuragi (206-F/C-76) of Aishin SH - 12 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists
7. Takuya Kawamura (193-G-86) of Tochigi Brex - 30 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Jamar Smith (206-F/C-80) of Hitachi SR - 19 points and 9 rebounds
9. Chris Moss (204-F-80) of Toshiba BT - 18 points and 8 rebounds
10. Michael Takahashi (198-F-74) of Toyota Alvark - 17 points and 11 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Akita Happinets welcome back Stephens, ex Chalons-Reims - 18 hours ago

Akita Northern Happinets (B League) tabbed 27-year old American forward Deshawn Stephens (203-102kg-89, college: San Diego State). It is actually his comeback to Akita Happinets as he has played here before. Stephens played most recently at Chalons-Reims in French ProA. He managed to play in four leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 19 ProA games he averaged 8.9ppg and 3.8rpg. Stephens also played that season for Banvit in BSL. But in four games he had just 1.3ppg and 1.8rpg. He a...   [read more]
More uncertainty trailing former league stats - 2 days ago

According to Japan times, should statistical records from the bj-league, the JBL and its successor (NBL), the JBL2 and its successor (NBDL) be kept handy and recited frequently for the B. League? Or should the accomplishments of players and teams in Japan's men's basketball circuits be stored away and ignored, with the slate wiped clean for the upstart circuit? Statistical accomplishments help fans and the media gain knowledge and appreciation for players and teams, so starting from scr...   [read more]
