Japan secured a 22:13 lead ten minutes into the game. They poured in 29 points in the second quarter to boost the margin. Japan stayed in front in the third quarter. Moreover they extended the margin to as many as 37 points before the final frame. Japan outscored Malaysia 22:0 in the final quarter to seal a comfortable win at the end. Kaede Kondo and Yuka Kosuge added 12 points each for Japan. Sook Ping Choo (173-88) answered with 9 points for Malaysia. Ching Yee Yap (192-C-91) had 6 points in the loss.

Worth to mention a great performance of international point guard Asami Yoshida (165-87) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists. The former international power forward Ramu Tokashiki (191-91) contributed with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Five JX Sunflowers players scored in double figures. International guard Emi Kudeken (165-84) replied with 17 points and center Mori Binge (180-88) added 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Toyota A.
