The biggest surprise of round 1 in Superleague took place in Baghdad where host Al Shurtah (8-3) beat Al Mina (3-8) 97-80 on Friday evening. Al Mina will play next round against strong Al Nift trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Al Shurtah will try to continue on its current victory against Al Kahraba. It will be extra interesting game as Al Kahraba is their local rival from Baghdad.
Al Nift defeated Al Karkh in Baghdad 99-88. Al Karkh will play next round against strong Nift Al-Janoub trying to get back on the winning streak. Al Nift will try to continue on its current victory against Al Mina at Basra.

Saigon Heat (VBA) landed 29-year old American power forward Travele Jones (203-88, college: Texas Southern). He played most recently at Nift Al-Janoub in Iraqi Superleague. It was a very successful season in his career as he was selected to Asia-Basket.com All-Iraqi League Honorable Mention.
