MaJic Dorsey
Coming off the best season of his professional career, LNBP Player of the Year MaJic Dorsey (185-PG-81, agency: Court Side, college: S.Indiana) has inked a lucrative deal with top Iraqi club Duhok. Duhok has a critical game coming up on Monday in Lebanon as they will face Riyadi-Aramex of Jordan for a spot in the FIBA Asia Clubs Championships which will take place in Lebanon later this year. Having lost in the quarterfinals of the WABA league to the same club, Duhok added the 30-year old Dorsey to pair with veteran big man Malcolm Battles as their two imports. Dorsey, a Baltimore, Maryland native, spent this past season in Mexico, beginning the season with Halcones UV Xalapa before playing the majority of his time Aguilas Rojas de San Juan del Rio. With Aguilas is where Dorsey truly made his mark. In 27 games he averaged a league-leading 30.5 points per game, to go along with 2.4 rebounds, 8.7 assists (#2) and 2.1 steals (#2) over 27 contests. For his efforts, Dorsey was named the Eurobasket.com LNBP Player of the Year and Import Player of the Year.
In consecutive games he set the LNBP and then FIBA assists records, tallying 21 and 23 respectively.
A veteran of five NBA D-League seasons, the 6-1 Dorsey has started 72 of 147 career D-League games, with career averages of 9.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.3 steals while shooting 43.2% from the field and 83.0% from the free-throw line.
Dorsey arrived in Lebanon a few days ago and has already begun training with Duhok and head coach Tamer Radif. Though the contract is for only a two week period, an impressive showing here could lead the way to further opportunities in the region. According to Dorsey, Coach Radif is a great person and accepted me as soon as I stepped off the plane, he has treated me like his own son and I hope to re-ay the favor by helping the team advance to the Asian Clubs Championships. Regarding new teammate Malcolm Battles, He is a true professional both on and off the court. We knew each other from our time splaying in Mexico and he wholeheartedly endorsed the clubs decision to bring me in, saying I was the best point guard he had ever seen in person. He's also really helped me adjust to the culture differences and feeling comfortable while with the club.
Coming off such a spectacular season statistically, Dorsey is ready for a new challenge and opportunity that awaits on Monday. According to Dorsey, Elie El Khoury was instrumental in helping me land the opportunity with Duhok, and I am truly grateful for the chance to make the fans and club management proud.
