TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Mehran Shahintab has been appointed as temporarily coach of Iran basketball team.

Dirk Bauermann surprisingly parted company with Iran basketball federation last week.

The German coach has been appointed as S.Oliver Wuerzburg coach, while who had signed a four-year contract extension until 2019 with Iran basketball federation in November 2015.

Bauermann sent an email to the Iranian federation and said he stepped down from his role due to his three-year-old child.

Now, Petrochimi Bandar Imam coach, who has worked as assistant coach of Bauermann, has been named as coach of the national team. Petro leading Iran super league with 11-1 record.

Shahintab is a former basketball player who was a member of Iran national team in 1990 and 1994 Asian Games, and FIBA Asia Championships in 1989, 1991, 1993 and 1995.

MIKE HARRIS Defending champion Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut (LBL) landed experienced 34-year old American small forward Mike Harris (198-107kg-83, college: Rice). He played recently at Petrochimi in Iranian Superleague. Harris also played for Sturgeons in Chinese CBA earlier that season where in 38 Superleague games he averaged impressive 20.2ppg, 11.7rpg, 2.7apg and 1.5spg this season.
