Superleague is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 9 rounds left.

The game between third ranked Naft Abadan (6-3) and fifth ranked Tabriz (5-4) was the most important one in the last round on Monday night. Naft Abadan was defeated by Tabriz in a tough game in Abadan 71-76. Naft Abadan trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 20-14 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 71-76 at the end of the game. It was a good game for Serbian forward Nikola Gacesa (206-87, college: TCU) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 9 rebounds. American forward Sean Williams (208-86, college: Boston Coll.) contributed with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocks for the winners. Tabriz's coach Mehran Hatami used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The former international guard Emad Salmani (188-90) answered with 21 points and 6 rebounds for Naft Abadan. Tabriz maintains fifth place with 5-4 record. Naft Abadan at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with Azad. Tabriz are looking forward to face Kashan (#6) on the road in the next round. Naft Abadan will play against Shiraz a.s Pipe and is hoping to win this game.
Superleague top team - Petrochimi (8-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed tenth ranked Shiraz a.s Pipe (0-9) 91-59. The former international point guard Hamed Hosseinzadeh (186-87) stepped up and scored 14 points for the winners and Reza Lotfi chipped in 13 points. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Babak Nezafat (190-77) with 20 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Petrochimi have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 8-1 record. Newly promoted Shiraz a.s Pipe still closes the standings with nine games lost. Petrochimi will play against league's second-placed Arak at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Shiraz a.s Pipe will play against Naft Abadan (#3) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 9: Azad smashed Gorgan on the road 68-45. Chemidor lost to Kashan on its own court 77-81. Army unfortunately lost to Arak in a road game 61-72.

Gorgan - Azad 45-68

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Azad (6-3) crushed on the road 9th ranked Shahrdari Gorgan (2-7) 68-45. It looked good early as Shahrdari Gorgan took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Azad had a 18-13 second period charge getting the lead and Shahrdari Gorgan was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 45-68. Azad dominated on the defensive end, holding Shahrdari Gorgan to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Shahrdari Gorgan's 22. American power forward Joseph Jones (206-86, college: Texas A&M) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import swingman J.P. Prince (203-87, college: Tennessee) chipped in 22 points. The best for the losing side was American-Guyanese Rawle Marshall (201-82, college: Oakland) with 22 points and 4 steals and the former international power forward Sasoon Abramian (208-87) scored 9 points and 15 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Azad moved-up to third place, which they share with Naft Abadan. Shahrdari Gorgan at the other side keeps the ninth position with seven games lost. Azad's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tehran Army.

Chemidor - Kashan 77-81

There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Chemidor (4-5) lost to eighth ranked Kashan (4-5) in Tehran 77-81. Chemidor was ahead by 5 points after three quarters before a 22-13 charge of Kashan, which allowed them to win the game. They made 23-of-29 charity shots (79.3 percent) during the game. Strangely Chemidor outrebounded Kashan 38-26 including a 18-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Chemidor was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Croatian center Zvonko Buljan (206-87, college: TCU) stepped up and scored 32 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals for the winners and Montenegrin point guard Ivan Koljevic (187-84) chipped in 14 points and 8 assists. The best for the losing side was American guard Daequan Cook (195-87, college: Ohio St.) with 27 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and the former international forward Amir Sedighi (203-93) scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. Kashan moved-up to sixth place, which they share with defeated Chemidor. Kashan will play against higher ranked Tabriz (#5) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Chemidor will play against Shahrdari Gorgan and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Very predictable result when second ranked Arak (7-2) won against at home 7th ranked Army (3-6) 72-61. The game was mostly controlled by Arak. Army was better in second period 15-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. International center Asghar Kardoust (212-86) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and American-Georgian forward Quinton Hosley (201-84, college: Fresno St.) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Arak players scored in double figures. Arak's coach Mohammad Kasaeipour allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was the former international Arsalan Kazemi (200-90, college: Oregon) with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international center Mohammad Torabi (211-92) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Arak have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 7-2 record behind leader Petrochimi. Army at the other side dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. Arak will play against league's leader Petrochimi in Bandar Imam in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Army's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tehran to the arena Azad.
