Filip
Toncinic
Experienced Croatian Filip Toncinic (212-C/F-84) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Gorgan and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 32-year old had a double-double of 36 points and fourteen rebounds, while his team beat Kashan (#8, 3-5) 86-72. Gorgan maintains the 9th position in Iranian Superleague. The season is still in it's early stage, so the team may have a chance to improve their current position in the standings. They lost 6 games and had just two victories. In the team's last game Toncinic had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range and got five three-pointers out of 9 attempts. He turned to be Gorgan's top player in his first season with the team. Texas A&M - Corpus Christi graduate has very impressive stats this year. Toncinic is league's best scorer averaging so far 25.0ppg. Toncinic is in league's top in rebounds (2nd best: 11.6rpg) and averages solid 41.9% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was another Gorgan's star - 34-year old American Rawle Marshall (201-SF-82). Marshall impressed basketball fans with 28 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists. Of course together with Toncinic he helped Gorgan with another comfortable win 86-72 over slightly higher-ranked Kashan (#8, 3-5) being unquestionably team leader. Gorgan's 9th position in the standings has not changed. 6 lost games are too many comparing to just two victories Gorgan managed to get this year. Marshall is a newcomer at Gorgan and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was Montenegrin Ivan Koljevic (187-PG-84) of Kashan (#8). Koljevic got into 30-points club by scoring 31 points in the last round. Despite Koljevic's great performance Kashan lost 72-86 to slightly lower-ranked Gorgan (#9, 2-6). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Kashan not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 5 games, recording just three victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Koljevic could try to bring Kashan's a little bit higher in the standings. Koljevic has a very solid season. In 2 games in Iran he scored 27.5ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Daequan Cook (195-G-87) of Chemidor - 31 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Mohammad Torabi (211-C-92) of Army - 15 points and 13 rebounds
6. Arsalan Kazemi (200-SF-90) of Army - 17 points and 9 rebounds
7. Erfan Nasajpour (177-PG-84) of Tabriz - 20 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Rouzbeh Arghavan (214-C/F-88) of Petrochimi - 23 points and 2 rebounds
9. Gerald Robinson (185-PG-89) of Petrochimi - 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists
10. Povilas Cukinas (210-C/F-83) of Chemidor - 15 points and 11 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Haddadi believes Iran's rising stars will carry the load in Asia Cup - 9 days ago
TEHRAN (FIBA Asia Cup 2017) - Iran may have to do battle at the FIBA Asia Cup 2017 without their most dominant player, Hamed Haddadi (218-C-85). This comes after the hulking 2.18m center revealed his plans to rest an injury he sustained last year in preparation for the Asia Qualifiers to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 in November. "After the FIBA Asia Challenge last year, I had an injury and had to rest, but I still needed to play with Sichuan in China," he shared. "My injury got wo...   [read more]

Yakhchali and Iran are focused and ready for FIBA Asia Cup - 25 days ago
TEHRAN (FIBA Asia Cup 2017) - Behnam Yakhchali (196-SG-95) is expected to be one of the big stars for Iran in the coming FIBA Asia Cup 2017, and that does not seem to faze the young man one bit. At just 21 years of age, the 1.95m wingman is already projected to be Iran's ace for the foreseeable future, and though that may place undue pressure on others, Yakhchali seems to have embraced it. He debuted for Team Melli's senior team as a wide-eyed 19-year-old back in 2014, already impressing...   [read more]
