Iran clinched the crown at the Fiba Asia Cup. They upset Japan in Tokyo today to celebrate success at the tournament. Aren Davoudichegani (185-PG-86) drained a triple with 19 seconds remaining in regulation to seal the victory for Iran. The victory also means automatic qualification at 2013 Fiba Asia Championship for Iran. Samad Nik Khahbahrami (198-F-83) finished with 14 points to lead the winners.
Iran enjoyed a slim 13:11 lead after ten minutes. They stretched the gap in the second quarter. The visitors arrived at the interval up by 7 points 30:23. But Japan turned things around in the third frame. The hosts finally picked up the right tempo and fired 21 points to pull ahead. Japan entered the fourth frame up by 4 points 44:40. It all came down to the final seconds in this one. Furukawa drained a triple to make it 51:47 for Japan with just over a minute to go. Asghar Kardoust (212-C-86) pulled Iran within one 50:51.
