Iran clinched the crown at the Fiba Asia Cup. They upset Japan in Tokyo today to celebrate success at the tournament. Aren Davoudichegani (185-PG-86) drained a triple with 19 seconds remaining in regulation to seal the victory for Iran. The victory also means automatic qualification at 2013 Fiba Asia Championship for Iran. Samad Nik Khahbahrami (198-F-83) finished with 14 points to lead the winners.
Iran enjoyed a slim 13:11 lead after ten minutes. They stretched the gap in the second quarter. The visitors arrived at the interval up by 7 points 30:23. But Japan turned things around in the third frame. The hosts finally picked up the right tempo and fired 21 points to pull ahead. Japan entered the fourth frame up by 4 points 44:40. It all came down to the final seconds in this one. Furukawa drained a triple to make it 51:47 for Japan with just over a minute to go. Asghar Kardoust (212-C-86) pulled Iran within one 50:51. Then Aren Davoudichegani hit his three-pointer to make it 53:51 for Iran. J.R. Sakuragi (206-F/C-76, college: UCLA) and Furukawa had chances to save the game for Japan but missed their attempts. Mohammad Jamshidi (197-SF-91), Hamed Afagh (190-SG-83) and Asghar Kardoust accounted for 8 points each for the winners. Kosuke Kanamaru (193-F/G-89) answered with 16 points for Japan. J.R. Sakuragi added 10 points in the loss.

Chemidor tabs Nicholas Covington, ex Peja - 1 day ago

Chemidor Tehran (Superleague) inked 31-year old American guard Nicholas Covington (188-91kg-85, college: Oklahoma City). He played most recently at Peja in Kosovan SuperLeague. Covington managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In four SuperLeague games he averaged 13.3ppg, 2.3rpg, 3.8apg and 2.3spg. He helped them to make it to the cup final. Shiraz a.s Pipe lands Babak Nezafat - 1 day ago

Newly promoted Shiraz a.s Pipe (Superleague) tabbed experienced 39-year old guard Babak Nezafat (190-85kg-77) from Shahrdary Gorgan. In 25 Superleague games he averaged 4.2ppg, 4.7rpg, 3.7apg (top 4) and 1.9spg last season. He can count that year as a very successful as was selected to All-Iranian Superleague Honorable Mention. Daniel Williams (ex Cactus Tbilisi) is a newcomer at Arak - 4 days ago

Shahrdary Arak (Superleague) strengthened their roster with addition of 29-year old American guard Daniel Williams (195-94kg-87, college: Lewis-Clark State). He played most recently at Cactus Tbilisi in Georgia Superleague. In 12 games he was third best scorer with 9.3ppg and had 3.2rpg and 3.1apg last season. Williams helped them to win the cup.
