Iran clinched the crown at the Fiba Asia Cup. They upset Japan in Tokyo today to celebrate success at the tournament. Aren Davoudichegani (185-PG-86) drained a triple with 19 seconds remaining in regulation to seal the victory for Iran. The victory also means automatic qualification at 2013 Fiba Asia Championship for Iran. Samad Nik Khahbahrami (198-F-83) finished with 14 points to lead the winners.
Iran enjoyed a slim 13:11 lead after ten minutes. They stretched the gap in the second quarter. The visitors arrived at the interval up by 7 points 30:23. But Japan turned things around in the third frame. The hosts finally picked up the right tempo and fired 21 points to pull ahead. Japan entered the fourth frame up by 4 points 44:40. It all came down to the final seconds in this one. Furukawa drained a triple to make it 51:47 for Japan with just over a minute to go. Asghar Kardoust (212-C-86) pulled Iran within one 50:51. Then Aren Davoudichegani hit his three-pointer to make it 53:51 for Iran. J.R. Sakuragi (206-F/C-76, college: UCLA) and Furukawa had chances to save the game for Japan but missed their attempts. Mohammad Jamshidi (197-SF-91), Hamed Afagh (190-SG-83) and Asghar Kardoust accounted for 8 points each for the winners. Kosuke Kanamaru (193-F/G-89) answered with 16 points for Japan. J.R. Sakuragi added 10 points in the loss.

Kashan lands Ivan Koljevic - 2 days ago

Newly promoted Shahrdary Kashan (Superleague) tabbed 32-year old Montenegrin ex-international point guard Ivan Koljevic (187-79kg-84) from Shahrdary Arak. In 33 Superleague games in Iran he averaged 7.0ppg, 1.9rpg and 1.7apg last season. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. The previous (2015) summer Koljevic played at Naft Abadan where in 11 Superleague games he was fourth best scorer with impressive 21.8ppg and recorded 5.0rpg, 4.4apg (top 2) and 1.8spg (in top 4) in 2015 season.    [read more]

Newly promoted Shahrdary Kashan (Superleague) added to their roster 29-year old Croatian center Zvonko Buljan (206-87, college: TCU). He already started the season at Atletico Aguada in Uruguayan LUB league. In two games he recorded 11.5ppg, 6.5rpg, 2.5apg and 1.0spg this season. The most of last season Buljan spent at Shahrdary Arak where in 30 Superleague games he was the best scorer with impressive 22.6ppg and had 5.4rpg, 1.9apg and 1.4spg. Naft Abadan (Superleague) agreed terms with 25-year old British ex-international power forward Ryan Richards (212-104kg-91, agency: Three Eye Sports). He already started the season at Karpos Sokoli in FYR Macedonian Prva Liga. In four games he had 6.0ppg and 2.8rpg this season.
