Iran posted the third win at the WABA Championship in Amman. They knocked down Syria to gain 3-1 record. Iran will now take on Jordan for the one remaining qualifying spot at the Fiba Asia Championship in Tokyo. Saeid Davarpanah (191-G/F-87) came up with 15 points to lead Iran in this one.
They held Syria to 10 points in the first quarter to take a 5-point lead. Iran maintained the lead throughout the second quarter. They ensured a 31:24 halftime lead. Iran kept their opponents at bay throughout the third quarter. They rallied to a 53:36 advantage with one quarter remaining. Iran dominated the final period holding Syria to 8 points and marching to a well-deserved win at the end. Samad Nik Khahbahrami (198-F-83) and Mohammad Hassanzadeh (201-F-90) delivered 12 points each for the winners. Michel Maadanly (194-G-81) proved his topscoring status chipping 25 points for Syria. Hakam Abdullah (198-F-82) added 6 points in the defeat.
