Lebanon recorded the third straight win at the start of WABA Championship in Amman. They held off the defending champions Iran in the third round. Garnett Thompson (206-C/F-80, college: Providence) and Fadi Khatib (199-F-79) scored 26 points each to lead the winners. Iran fell at 2-1 record after the loss. Lebanon surged ahead in the opening quarter. They built a 22:17 lead after ten minutes. But Iran quickly bounced back. The reigning champs took control in the second quarter and denied the deficit. They pulled ahead for a 39:35 halftime advantage. Lebanon came out of the dressing room firing from all guns. They limited Iran 13 points in the third frame to regain the lead. Lebanon kept their opponents at distance in the final stanza as Fadi Khatib and Garnett Thompson steered them to the victory. Rodrigue Akl (188-PG-88) finished with 8 points and 8 rebounds for Lebanon. Hamed Afagh (190-SG-83) answered with 22 points for Iran. Samad Nik Khahbahrami (198-F-83) delivered 15 points in the loss.
