With only three fully professional Womens basketball leagues in Asia, Iran is seeking to develop a strong competitive league someday, now that it has gained admission to the FIBA Asian Womens Basketball Association. The Iranian, national team made it to the Semi- finals at the Western Asian Basketball Association (W.A.B.A.) Championship Series in 2008, and has been developing a number of under 18 female teams that should provide an ample supply of talent for not only the national team, but for teams that will hopefully participate in the Iranian, and Asian Leagues in the future. So as their junior league players grow and develop the future of Iranian Womens Basketball looks very bright. As that future develops I plan to report more on Iranian Womens Basketball. 10-24-09 one would have to wonder with superb women basketball players like Arnineh Petrousian and Azadeh Zamanpour when will the government give these women adequate practice facilities, financial sponsorship, pay for coaches and players and last but not least world coverage. The Iranian men demonstrated their championship abilities by winning the mens Asian championship. so now let Iranian women become true professionals and not pretenders. The information black -out by the government should be lifted so these women can be a source of pride and national honor a woman has been added to the countries Cabinet so why not allow women sports to be acknowledged also internationally ?

Azad University triumphs in the country as they dethroned Jahan Macaroni Qazvin 75:70 in the Finals. Azad University led 22-15 and then enjoyed a 39:31 halftime advantage. In game for the third place, National Gas Company overcame Bandar Abbas 91:68.    [read more]
Tehran University wins the competition - Feb 23, 2013

Tehran University wins the competition in the country. The team overcame Abbas Amanat 86:52 in the first game. In another game World Pasta Qazvin won over National Gas Company, Tehran 87:58. In the game for the third place National Gas Company, Tehran beat Abbas Amanat 91:68. In the Final Tehran University won over World Pasta Qazvin 75:70.    [read more]
Ararat Wins the title, qualifies for WABA - Feb 26, 2011

After 6 months of competitions the Iranian Women Super League finished and Ararat won the title for their second title in 2 years. After adding their foreign player, Ararat seemed unbeatable and easily won the championships. Qazvin Basketball became second with a very talented and young squad and for sure we will here more from this team in upcoming years. Foolad Sepahan finished 3rd and Gaz Tehran got the 4th spot.    [read more]
