IBL Round 9: NSH GMC beat Pelita Jaya by two after a very close game - Feb 18, 2017

The most exciting game of round 9 in the IBL took place in Jakarta. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 6th ranked Pelita Jaya (3-4) to eighth ranked NSH GMC (3-4) 74-72 in the game for the sixth place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Pelita Jaya. The guests trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 20-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. NSH GMC forced 24 Pelita Jaya turnovers. It was a good game for American power forward Nate Barfield (206-88, college: Langston) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 14 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Gary Jacobs (188-92, college: Cent.Washington) contributed with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. American-Jamaican forward Kore White (205-89, college: S.Florida) answered with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 18 rebounds for Pelita Jaya. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. NSH GMC moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Pelita Jaya and Hang Tuah. NSH GMC is looking forward to face league's second-placed CLS Knights in Surabaya in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pelita Jaya will play on the road against Satya Wacana (#11) in Salatiga and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Satya Wacana is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their seventh consecutive match to tenth ranked JNE BSC (2-4) 65-62. American forward Chris Brand (208-90, college: Lincoln, PA) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 23 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals for the winners and Teddy Apriyana chipped in 5 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Andre Adriano (175-94) with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. JNE BSC moved-up to ninth place. Satya Wacana at the other side still closes the standings with seven games lost. JNE BSC will play against higher ranked Aspac (#3) in Jakarta in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Satya Wacana will play at home against Pelita Jaya (#6) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Aspac maintains third place with 5-2 record having just two point less than leader Satria Muda, which they share with Garuda. Hang Tuah lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with Pelita Jaya and NSH GMC. Aspac will meet JNE BSC (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hang Tuah will have a break next round.

In the last game of round 9 Bima Perkasa was beaten by Garuda on the road 67-61.

Garuda - Bima Perkasa 67-61

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Garuda (5-2) beat 9th ranked Bima Perkasa (1-5) in Bandung 67-61 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 67-61. Garuda dominated on the defensive end, holding Bima Perkasa to just 6 points in second quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Bima Perkasa's 20. They outrebounded Bima Perkasa 47-33 including 34 on the defensive glass. American center Chris Ware (203-89, college: Indiana Tech) nailed 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import guard Sherrard Brantley (188-90, college: Georgia) accounted for 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Garuda's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Tyrell Corbin (184-92, college: CSU Bakersfield) came up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds and the former international Yanuar Dwi-Priasmoro (178-89) added 25 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Bima Perkasa in the defeat. Garuda have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Aspac. Bima Perkasa lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. Garuda will meet league's leader Satria Muda in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bima Perkasa will have a break next round.

Aspac - Hang Tuah 72-62

The game between third ranked Aspac (5-2) and 7th ranked Hang Tuah (3-4) in Jakarta on Saturday ended with biggest points difference. Aspac beat guests from Pandang 72-62. The game was mostly controlled by Aspac. Hang Tuah managed to win fourth quarter 23-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. OSK R. Airlines (TBL) strengthened their roster with addition of 29-year old American power forward Nate Barfield (206-104kg-88, college: Langston). He played in the summer at NSH GMC GSBC Jakarta in Indonesian IBL league. In 14 games he was third best scorer with impressive 26.4ppg and had 14.4rpg (leader !!!), 1.4apg and 1.8spg. Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (PBA) strengthened their roster with addition of 29-year old American forward Duke Crews (203-106kg-88, college: Bowie State). He moved there from CLS Knights in Indonesian IBL league where he played this season. In 6 games he recorded very impressive stats: 22.0ppg, 16.7rpg, 2.2apg, 1.8spg and 1.8bpg.
