Indonesia wins 2016 ASEAN University Games with 5 participating teams. In the Final game they overcame Thailand 73-57. Earlier Indonesia finished second at the Robin Round with a 3-1 record losing the important game to Thailand 60-66. In the game for the third place Malaysia beat Singapore 65-56. Laos finished the tourney with a 0-4 record on the fifth place.

American Emilio Parks (198-F/C-93) had a very impressive game in the last round for Bima Perkasa and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 5. The 24-year old power forward had a double-double of 23 points and eighteen rebounds, while his team beat Hang Tuah (#4, 0-4), the league's bottom-ranked team 65-58. Coincidentally all hosts won their games. The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Garuda as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Garuda defeated bottom-ranked Siliwangi in Bandung 69-56. The best player for the winners was American power forward Roderick Flemings (203-87, college: Hawaii, agency: Interperformances) who had a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds.
