Super League comes to an end with all ups and downs, Mahram wins title
Tony Madison scored 24
points and grabbed 8 rebounds as Mahram clinched their first ever
championship title Wednesday in the Iranian Super League with a
106-93 win over Saba Battery, the Asian title-holder. It was the
sauce-makers' second win in a row after they downed Saba 101-93 on
Monday. The defending champion Saba Battery played the first game
without the services of French point-guard Makan Dioumassi who was
suffering from an injury. He played 40 minutes in his team's second
challenge. Mahram's Samad Bahrami scored 20 points but had to leave
the court when he received his second technical. Art Long had left
the game earlier when he continued his aggressive play and picked up
his second technical foul.
It came as the coaches of both teams, the bench players and even the
fans seemed to be frustrated with the mistakes of referees and their
inconsistency in calling or not making calls when they should have,
in the last two final games.
'There were several major reasons that stopped us from repeating the
championship this season,' Saba's coach, Mehran Shahintab said, 'we
lost one of our key players, Aidin Bahrami who passed away in a car
crash before the play-offs; also we had to play 3 or 4 games in a
week in the play-offs and finals, due to the squeezed schedule,
which made our players too exhausted.'
Saba Battery suffered from another blow during the play-offs when
there were changes going to happen inside the managerial board.
Meantime, in Isfahan, Kaveh handed Zob Ahan their second loss 74-52
in the 3rd-place games. Zob Ahan had been defeated 103-94 in the
first game earlier this week.

Great Coaching Wins Saba Battery Championship Title
The Iranian Super League (ISL) ended last Thursday, as Saba
Battery were crowned champions, and an all-time record was
established by Coach Mr. Mehran Shahintab, gaining 3 titles for
the first time in Iranian basketball.
Saba Battery were playing in the ISL finals for the fourth time
this season, and won the last game against the host Petrochimi,
while they were 4 points behind in the last seconds, 67-71; in a
packed stadium with over 5000 pro-Petrochimi spectators in the
small town of Mahshahr, nobody believed that Saba would win
their second straight game in a 2-out-of-3 finals. The
scoreboard was showing 72 tie, when Saba was given two
free-throws and just one point was enough for them to finish the
job 73-72.
Experts and writers said Shahintab could undoubtedly be named
“The King of Over-Timesâ€, as in five games in the semi-final
stage, Saba came from behind and won the game, taking the lead
in over-time. Shahintab himself believes that time management
and how you deal with the players specially the imports, on and
off the court, are the two key points in successful coaching.
Finals:
First Game: Saba Battery - Petrochimi 103-107 (2nd OT)
Second Game: Saba Battery - Petrochimi 73 -72 (OT)

Congratulations
to Saba Battery Fans
The
powerhouse Saba Battery were crowned champions of Iran's Super League, beating
Petrochimi of Mahshahr 3 times in a row in the final phase of the competitions
which was 3 out of 5. Saba had only one loss through the whole season in a game
against Pegah of Shiraz, and it kept its dominancy over the other teams, thanks
to the well-organized team they had all the times in all games.
In the third and last clash, Garth Joseph, the tallest import in the Iranian
Super League (218cm) made the last shot in just 1 second to the end of the
match, and changed the score to 66-64.
The second runners-up will be known on Monday, when Sanam and Peykan play the
fifth game, as both teams had 2 wins each before.

Takes the First Title in the Iranian Super League
After passing a season of hardworks for all
partcipating teams, the 2004-05 Iranian Super League came to its end,
crowning Sanam as the Champions of Iran. Sanam thrashed its arch-rival,
Saba Battery, 94-79 in the final match on Sunday night. This difference
seemed to give a real shock to Saba, which came to this game, almost as
an unbeatable team during the whole season. Even Andre Pitts and Lorenzo
Hall could not help Saba to survive from the quagmire made by Sanam. It
was not Saba's night, too! In the first game on last Thursday, Saba beat
Sanam 79-75, but with brilliant performances by Aidin Kabir, Waitari
Marsh, and other Sanam players in this game, Saba could go over only for a
few minutes, easily giving back the lead to Sanam who could never forget
the nightmare of last season, losing the final match of 2003-04 season.
Meanwhile, in Isfahan, Zob Ahan was defeated 74-58 in the its second game
against Peykan, placing it on third and Zob Ahan on fourth on the final
standing of Iranian Super League. The first game on last Thursday also
finished 102-73 for Paykan.
