American Guard Kevin Murphy (196-G-90) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Guangxi, receiving a Asia-basket.com NBL Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 27-year old player had a double-double of 58 points and 10 rebounds, while his team beat Luoyang (#10, 4-4) 134-129. Guangxi is placed at 4th position in Chinese NBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Guangxi will need more victories to improve their 5-3 record. In the team's last game Murphy had a remarkable 57.9% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Guangxi, through which he has constantly improved. Former Tennessee Tech University star has very solid stats this year. Murphy is in league's top in points (2nd best: 47.5ppg) and averages impressive 59.2% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 26-year old American Russ Smith (183-PG-91) of Luoyang. Smith had a very good evening with a double-double of 62 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Luoyang lost that game 129-134 to the higher-ranked Guangxi (#4, 5-3). This loss caused Luoyang to drop to 10th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 4-4 record is not bad and everything may still change. Smith is one of the most experienced players at Luoyang and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 59.5ppg (#1). He also registered 8.1 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Guangxi's star - American center Isaiah Austin (216-C-93). Austin got into 30-points club by scoring 40 points in the last round. He went also for nineteen rebounds . He was another key player of Guangxi, helping his team with a 134-129 win against the lower-ranked Luoyang (#10, 4-4). Guangxi needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 5 victories and 3 lost games. The season just started for Austin as he played only first game. But it already looks like he can be another team's leader.

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

NBL is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 13 rounds left. An interesting game for Henan (11-2) which hosted in Henan 3rd placed Anhui (8-5). First ranked Henan managed to get a 6-point victory 141-135. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Anhui. Shanghai Sharks (CBA) confirmed in their roster 28-year old American point guard Jimmer Fredette (188-89kg-89, college: BYU). He was a team leader there last season. Team Red of the Chinese men's basketball national team beat Egypt 90-64 to win the third place at the Stankovic Continental Cup 2017 here on Sunday, while Germany defeated Croatia 69-65 for the championship title.
